For me, and this is just my personal OCD thing..I don't like choices. I don't like DACs with selectable filters,
cables with articulation points, or speakers with a million tweeter settings. That is MY personal short coming.

I see that as a strength, not a shortcoming.

My cynical side says that as the mid/high end traditional audio industry contracts, some manufacturers will try to give it longevity by means such as these rather than producing what they can attain as the best for a certain price point. Just my opinion.

Interesting point. One could say that offering so many ways to tailor the sound of a product is a manufacturer
not having the confidence in their ability to voice a product neutrally..so they are putting the ball in the listeners court.

That's true. Though a challenge for listeners in certain situations, where there are four cable settings, four DAC settings and four loudspeaker tweaks, is that one ends up with 64 (confusing?) options. Which is 63 too many for me.

I agree totally. But no being an absolutist, if someone wanted 63 additional parameters to tweak while trying to listen to music, more power to 'em.
