I didn't intentionally choose a company that would force me to download a new OS that had a well known issue with the phone that I owned before I could download an app that I wanted so the OS would break my phone. That's nonsense and I don't care how much you worship at the alter of Apple.

I guess one reasonable question would be: how would the process have worked with an older Android phone?

I have no idea. Do they have a buggy OS that breaks their older phones?
