I think the best suggestion is to include fermented foods in your diet.

Yes, personally love Kimchi but not everyone does. I get it at the farmers market every week! :) Some of the other stuff may be available at a health food store or nowadays online.

The "New Yorker" magazine had an interesting article on the "new appraisals" of the medical profession of intricate bacterial and viral ecologies and balanced health.

They cited a case of a man with a stubborn ear infection who doctors treated with antibiotics and lavages, to no effect. The patient eventually cured himself by taking wax from his unaffected ear and putting it in his "infected" ear, and the problem cleared up by itself.
