I'm just getting around to setting-up a Dual 1019 which I acquired. The only issue I have with it is a static/crackling noise, on the speakers, when I use the auto-start function. As the tonearm moves the noise happens. There is no noise if I use the manual start method. Grounding it to the preamp made no difference. Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.

I have recently been working on the same issue on a Dual 510 turntable. Apparently, replacing the capacitor on the startup switch resolves this problem. Also, could be a shorting issue with the tonearm cable.

Thanks 3rdRock. Moving the tonearm in manual mode doesn't make the noise so hopefully it isn't the tonearm cable. Another suggestion I received said it could be dirt or corrosion in the 'muting switch'. I will check that out soon and let you know the results. Then if that doesn't improve things I will check that cap.
