Tempts me to trade in my late Scarlatti DAC!

Lee, any comments on the performance of the pre-amp/volume control function? In a simple system could one seriously entertain eliminating his pre-amp without a significant drop in SQ?

Yes, it's very high quality imho. I think you could easily use it as a preamp and still get good sound quality.
