They forgot the stench of dust and mildew, the endless clumps of Barbara Streisand, Barry Manilow, Mitch Miller, Ferrante and Teichner, Rod McKuen, Lawrence Welk, Swingle Singers etc. that give you the "badge of honor" finger calluses from finding great records at the thrifts.
I gave up on thrift stores a long time ago. Yeah, you might be lucky and come across some gems. You are probably just as likely to go into an Amish community and find people with beautiful teeth.
The 'new' thrift store is bottom feeding on the Internet. If you have the time, and are willing to work the keys and formulate different search requests, you can sometimes find bargains compared to market price. Granted, you are still dependent on the seller's grading, but since you can't really play-grade in a used vinyl store, you are pretty much in the same boat. And you don't have to leave the comfort of your shack.
