I consider myself an 'audiophile' in as much as I am passionate about fidelity ,I just want to understand why I hear what I am hearing.
Keith

and I respect your right to feel that way, as long as you 'reasonably' respect that many see it different.

there was a time when you were at the extreme objectivist end of things here. but the bar has been lowered considerably.:D

Hello Keith and good afternoon to you. I can respect your viewpoint here. There is not one thing wrong with it IMO.

What I am proposing to you and others who share your thoughts would be this......*for example*......If you or anyone else wants to understand technically how or why a particular DAC stacks up to another and the thread has already been created with many people chiming in on their audio observations, how about starting another thread to discuss this exact thing? That way, those who are interested in audio observations can read others experiences without the thread being derailed. Those who are interested in how or why the 2 DAC's differ from a technical aspect can have some in depth conversations that would perhaps find out technical aspects that support or refute the findings of the listening observations and those that are interested in both can read about both sides from an uninterrupted point of view.

The same would obviously go for a technical thread where one would like to discuss the listening impressions of said DAC.

This is just a proposal without changing any forum policy. IME and IMO, this works and this works well. Just throwing this proposal out there, this is in no way to be considered "law" or direction that carries a heavy weight just because I happen to be a moderator. ;)

Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully consider.

^^^^ Tom - Seems like a well-thought out suggestion to me. :)

Does WBF have a mission statement? What is WBF intended to do? What is expected of its members? IOW, I know there's TOS which describe certain rules to follow. Are their any aspirational goals associated with WBF?

Can someone be both an objectivist and a subjectivist or is this a paradox?
Hi Marty and good afternoon to you sir. The way I see it, members could choose to read and/or post in whichever they would want to. No paradox intended.

Tom

hi tom,

in regard to your idea...,

i put this forward a while back, there needs to be a link between the two threads so the information has more validity. we must remember how people view and use this place (not just the members). this could work imo depends on the software of the forum, we would need each thread of the same topic but in different areas to be visibly linked so you can pop over from one to the other. if we dont do this we will end up with fragmented debate that's too one sided and ultimately rendered irrelevant as a consequence.

Thanks Tom my friend. I think I fall into both camps, maybe counseling can help me get this resolved.
Then we will both need counseling sir. :D

i will give you guys a group discount if your willing to share a room, its a residential program though!

Can someone be both an objectivist and a subjectivist or is this a paradox?

if we take the simplistic way to define the terms;

subjectivist = only using senses to judge.
objectivist = never using senses to judge.

then everyone does both. data has some value to everyone. what we hear matters to everyone in some way.

so no; we are all situational; only the degree of tendency differs due to many factors.

I would guess the average member could care less about subjectivist vs objectivist.

Spaz I told you the answer is Skype. You could quit your day job just to service WBF.
WBF members would be a life time's work but its going to take a lot more than a few SKype sessions to make the kind of progress necessary.

So do we create a fund it account to have you travel to each member for one on one counseling until we have all been cured? Maybe we all agree to a lobotomy would be a quicker fix.

Hello, Greg. I would venture to say that you are most likely correct in this assumption. As sure as cotton grows white, I do not.

Tom

Like BlueFox stating that I called for Bill Low's ban, which I never did, and then when I correctly point out I never said such a thing I'm called arrogant instead of an apology?

This is some mighty fair handedness going on here.

Go back and reread the thread. I said you were correct. Of course, reading comprehension is one of your many weaknesses. However, you are a good troll. I will give you that.
