Am I getting this right? You're trading in a car that has been sitting in your garage for a month, a car you haven't been able to drive even once, for a different car that will sit in your garage for another month before you'll have a chance to drive it?

You are my new hero! :)

Is that sort of like the boxes of new LPs I have sitting waiting to be opened, cleaned and played? I read about Christians gear and just smile wondering what it would be like.

I hope you've driven the GT3 RS version. I had a 2010 GT3, and also drove a RS of that edition. The RS was a "track focused version" of the GT3- louder, much less comfortable, and indeed faster. At my level of driving ability, the GT3 was not the limiting factor in lap times-I was. While I could drive my GT3 back and forth to the track for track days-sometimes 12 hours one way drives-, I would never have been able to drive the RS version. It was just too rough and uncomfortable to do so. Everyone I knew that drove RSs on the track towed their Porsche back and forth, and didn't drive them to the track. Either way, it will be a beast to drive and own. You are very lucky to own either version- there really is no substitute for Porsche , and I say this as I now own a BMW M4. A great car , but no GT3 :(

yes it was the plan all along. Bought the standard version as insurance. There is no guarantee for allocation on this limited car.

Well done Christian! There really is nothing like a Porsche, and having driven ONCE a track-ready version back and forth to Connecticut, well, like scouter says, never again. I wouldn't mind driving his M4, though :D

Rockitman,
did you ever consider Carrera GT?
Appreciate not new and a bit more expensive than GT3 RS but does seem to come up reasonable often for sale from reputable dealers.
Also appreciate it is not as much a drivers car as the GT3 RS, although I do wonder if that is a bit brutal on normal roads - is over here in the UK for the one person I used to know who owned one, but UK has crud roads and traffic "calming" bumps growing everywhere it seems to say the least :)

Cheers

Forget that. Just get the 918 and be done with it.

I don't even think that the 918 is California street legal

Congratulations on the acquisition(s) Christian.
I live but a few miles from the Newport Coast and there is nothing more fun than taking the Pacific Coast High Way on any weekend and you'd be amazed at how many of these you'd see. Newport Beach here has to be the Porsche mecca of this country

Carrera GT's are my favorite Porsche. The real end to a race car for street use. The current used prices with a few thousand miles are north of $400k. The msrp on a new one back in '04-'05 was $435,000. Too rich and dangerous for me.

Agree something very special feeling about the Carrera GT, with you on the price can be a bit of a sticking point especially as the GT3 RS could be deemed better from a drivers perspective and also is new.
How much are the Gt3 RS where you live?
BTW grtz on either the GT3 or RS, both fantastic cars with a bit more of the fun factor compared to the 911 Turbo, although the Turbo IMO is one of the best cars for fast A to B driving here in the UK - just that the 911 Turbo does not have that same level of driving satisfaction IMO, still love it though :)

Current configuration with most options $204k. My current GT3 came in at $156k. $10k of the price this time around is for the PCCB (ceramic brake) option which I don't have on my current car. The PCCB save 20lbs per corner in unstrung weight I believe and stop better than steel brakes. The rotors are very expensive to replace which is the only downside of PCCB.

I have ceramic brakes on my car. You're in for a treat when you get to change them, rotors as well

The scale is different, but is this really any different from replacing or rebuilding a worn cartridge or tubes in an expensive audio system. The overall percentages may even be similar. You gots to pay to play as they say.

I respect Christian's interest in pursuing the last few degrees of performance, both in audio and on the track. I've also seen some of his photographs of birds, and it is clear to me that Christian is interested in excellence in many fields and follows his passions.

If you push your car often (which on normal roads would also require frequent firm breaking so not as to be in a potentially dangerous situation with unseen hazards ) then IMO you need ceramic brakes, talking from experience that steel brakes have a hard time if pushing for awhile, especially with the acceleration-momentum of these cars.
Although I think you guys already know this from experience anyway :)
And of course depends upon the car and their design.

After market ceramic brake rotors is $15k for a set of 4. For the Porsche brand replacements, it's close to $20k. If I were to track this car a lot, I would go steel. I may only do a few track events per year, so they should last for years, subject to periodic pad replacement.
