Called the tech today and it looks good , it looks the A 80 is gonna work properly again , had a chat about the caps and all that , he said they are old dont have their full capacity , dont measure properly ,so they ll go all out and i will probably (price??) agree to do a full elco revision .
If place would allow it, i would certainly put some mundorf supremes at crucial spots which are good caps and dont cost a leg , they sound better in speaker crossovers than solen in my opinion ,which i also tried among others , tried also leclanche, mundorf silver oil ,duelund vsf and some more
Got another 20 or so old tapes from the dutch television , some classical recordings and documentairies , probably mastertapes.
on the back it says PER 528 AKI which are old emtec tapes , good quality ???
I will have both recorders adjusted to sm 911 and sm 900 tapes , and then i ll buy some music from tony and ed , i am quite excited:D for the result

yep its gonna be done , both the B 62 and the A 80 RC mk2 are going to get the full revision incl motor bearings /tapehandling bearings /bushings ?, motorpowerunit elkos replaced plus a elko revision of all the cards, repro and record plus calibration for either SM 911 or SM 900 .
It will take around a month
I can then also start recording on high quality tape myself , pretty cool :D

Another thing on whether replacing caps in the audioboards yes or no
How original is a studer with dryed out caps or caps that dont meet the specs , i think its more original with parts that meet specification , instead of old worn stuff

It's either bushings or bearings. There are few bushes left, even on people.

Apologies if I was not clear - it was never the question of keeping parts not meeting specification. The point referred was that some of these old parts were still up to specification decades after manufacture and replacing them with newer types would change the original sound of the machines. If you download the Fred Thal Studer list archives you will find some posts on it.

:D
I was just questioning the tapehandling rollers on the a 80 /B 62 , whether they are bearings or shaft /bushing rollers i didnt look inside the rollers yet , i mount bearings and bushings for a living among other things , only they range from 25 mm shaft diam until 400 mm.

PS corrected the mistake:D

The A80 has only bearings - it was one of the reasons I choose it when ordering a machine I could not test before getting it. Even if the machine is well used just putting new quality bearings will put it in as new mechanical condition. As far as I know the B62 also uses mainly bearings - only some arm levers use bushings.

I suppose you know you can download all the service manuals from the Studer site:

PS . the best bearings we use in the factory are rex bearings from the US , hardly ever any downtime with those bearings very solid construction.
