Congrats to the US women's team for winning both gold and silver at this event

Can someone please explain to me how the USA had two teams in the competition. I can't remember ever seeing that although I guess in 1996 a similar result occurred in the USA Men's Beach volleyball, getting both gold and silver

It has always been that way. Probably because every team only consist of two players. For the big nations in beach volleyball it would be very hard to ever qualify to the olympics (compare it to athletics).
