Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that VPI is all over the map with their turntable progression. I have owned two VPI tables; the original Scout and an earlier model VPI TNT. VPI has gone from motors in the plinth to motors outside the plinth and back to motors in the plinth. The first TNT tables had 3 pulleys the belt went around and then VPI switched gears by saying to forget the other two pulleys and only go from the motor to the pulley to avoid excessive noise.
And now the new Traveler looks like a cheaper version of the Scout with the motor built into the plinth. So which one is the better table? The original Scout with the outboard motor and the JMW 9 arm or the new Traveler with the gimbal arm? Not that I’m in the market for either, but I would like to hear from people who have owned or heard both.
