Just caught the tail end of one of my all time favorite movies, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It reminded me of masterful use of music to go with the various scenes. If you have not seen the movie, here is an example of the nasty principal talking the bus at the end of the movie and having to face the students. Who would think this song could be used this way???

Breaking Paradise, Phenomenon, Thin Red Lince... just three top of mind picks... I like soundtracks just as much as Live recordings a lot.

Amir, No fair! How can anyone possibly follow up Yello and Ferris? :)

On the darker side, Echo and the Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon" in Donnie Darko struck a chord. The use of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax" in Body Double was likewise a perfect match.

The oddest but also strangely effective opening sequence I've seen is the Can Can/ Smells Like Teen Spirit mash up in Moulin Rouge.

Eye of the Tiger anybody? Boy I hate that song but it is one that never seems to want to die kept alive by karaoke singers worldwide.

I love the music of 1492 - Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis. Powerful and emotional. I have the LP and CD of this.

I think I went to my first movie when I was 5 or 6,which started a love affair with film music to this day. I have many favorites,to many to list, but to me men like Franz Waxman ,M.Roza ,Alex North, ect, ect, ect were masters. I suggest you listen to the soundtrack from the "Bad and the Beautiful" by David Raskin you'll be hooked.

I love soundtracks and have been trying to collect decent LP's of them over the years. One of my favourites is the Ennio Morricone LP of "Duck You Sucker". The other soundtrack I really enjoy (CD however) is "I Am Sam". And although rarely mentioned, the soundtrack from "Apocalypse Now" is stunning.

Blade Runner! I can't seem to ever separate the music from the film.
The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly. What's an electric guitar doing in a Western anyway! The whistling seems to work too!
