Some of those are just ridiculous! "Joe's Garage" for Zappa? "Rust Never Sleeps" for Neil Young? "Houses of the Holy" for Led Zeppelin? Even choosing "Quadraphenia" from The Who is a stretch.

One's eyebrows are raised by many of the choices.

To me it looks like an old fart's list. Oh and no Nirvana???? The mind boggles.

-- A dozen (half) of those are alright (max, no more than twelve selections), but the rest is just terrible!

It's just to tell you that we are much better music selectors than these people coming with this type of list.

Just as an example I'll give you only twelve (in no order):

- Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon.
- Pink Floyd: The Wall.
- Bob Dylan: Blood on the Tracks.
- Bob Dylan: The Freewheelin'.
- Van Morrison: Astral Weeks.
- Van Morrison: Moondance.
- The Rolling Stones: Beggars Banquet.
- Led Zeppelin I.
- Led Zeppelin II.
- Led Zeppelin III.
- Jethro Tull: Aqualung.
- Jethro Tull: Thick as a Brick.

The Quadrophenia at #1 is beyond a stretch Never was a fan of the Stones or the Beach Boys so I would take them out of it entirely I would have LZ1. 2 and 3 ... as # 1,2,3 :D

I also need to see The Doors' "The Doors" album need to be amongst the top 10 somewhere; else a good list IMO

---- You and I totally agree with Led Zeppelin. ...And even throw number four (IV).
The Doors, few albums of them too; like Morrison Hotel, and their first one of course (The Doors).

There are some choices that must be included, IMO a 'top of" LIST should be a learning experience. No need to state the obvious.

IMO the purpose of ajtop list is not just to acknowledge the best work of the best but to bring attention to lessor known excellence. To cast light on that which might be overlooked ,is less know. You might then be acquainted with a gem you missed.
Rather than give Wilson and Magico the best speaker award every year you might one to focus the readers attention on anther product.

Myles anyone who was a teenager in the '60's is now an old fart.

Hello, Greg. I don't want to sound negative at all and I don't want to belittle the choices but me even posting in this thread makes that an impossible task. I would have full confidence and even a sense of pride seeing a list of the top 25 Classic Rock Albums created by the members of the WBF as I would respect that list. This one, not so much. I'll just respectfully say that we will have to agree to disagree with regards to this list.

I'm pretty sure Nirvana is not "classic rock"; Supertramp, maybe.

No problem Tom. I thought about changing it to Gregs', favorites and posting my own list. If you found one album you previously had not considered it was worth it. Even if you didn' like any, it got you to think.

Music is a matter of taste. Rock and Roll is a huge body of work that cannot be done justice by 25 selections. e.g. My R&B list has 100 choices.

I am reminded by what Oprah said," Don't write me to tell me you don't like the dress am wearing. I'll be wearing a different one tomorrow."

Maybe we need to decide on a definition for what "classic" rock is. I agree that Nirvana is too new to be considered classic rock by old farts. If I'm going to throw a Who LP into the mix (and I am), it would be Live at Leeds. If I was going to throw a Beatles LP into the mix, it would be Revolver. I believe that Sgt. Pepper was built on the backbone of Revolver. As much as like the first ELP LP, I don't know if that would fit the definition of classic rock because it's sort of prog rog isn't it?

Maybe not to old farts but Nirvana was to young kids what The Beatles were to us. Especially after an '80s that was essentially a musical wasteland.

I'd accept ELP's first album- I think 'progressive' got defined later, at that time you just slugged one of these things into the 8 track player in the van and tried to remember where you last left that mexican poncho you were so fond of....
BTW, I started a separate list on a new thread, no disrespect to Greg....

I'm not talking about musical values (although I personally find little in Nirvana), I'm talking about what's called "classic rock", usually (and arbitrarily) defined as prior to about 1975. That could probably be stretched to 1980 or so, but if you try to go beyond that you make the category "alternative rock" meaningless (not that it isn't anyway...)
