My wife volunteers every Tuesday so I often use that day to take in movies she has no interest in. Today I decided to give Mark Wahlberg's latest "The Gambler" a go. After the first 15 minutes I was surprised that it was much better than anticipated. The writing and characters portrayed by Michael Kenneth Williams, and John Goodman were spot on. In fact this could have been a very good movie if I could have developed any empathy for Mark Whalberg's character. Don't get me wrong he played it to perfection, I just don't like these characters. I walked out with mixed emotions. Some fine writing, a decent story, Brie Larson a understated cutie, but hating what Whalberg was doing to himself and others.
