Meant to say "Panasonic", best in plasma (VT50 series) since the selling off of Pioneer plasma technology to Sharp.

That makes more sense. I'm not really a videophile, so I'm planning to buy the ST50 55", hoping the price goes under $1000.

I find January to be a horrible time to buy any electronics. The reason is that stores do their inventory usually at the end of January so they try to not stock up on anything post Xmas holiday. This means that you can't find most things you are looking for and/or they are customer returns. The exception is online vendors.
