Went to the summit of Mauna Kea over the holidays (~14k ft). Saw all the observatories and our guide let us look through his telescope at Venus/Jupiter/Nebula..etc.
Too dark to see brand but did know it was pretty compact and he said it was a 12" model. Need to connect DSLR also.
Any recommendations?

Something like this? http://www.meade.com/lx800

I have an old 8" with a simple mount. I have a good friend with probably ~$50k invested in his 'scope and all the goodies. I'll have to look up the maker -- he is even more anal than I when it comes to researching and finding the very best (he can afford it, I just like to read about it, and see through his when I can!)
