Hi,

I bought a second hand CB 11" arm and am some trouble fine tuning this thing...It seems to sound very natural actually much more so than a Kuzma 4 point9" that I've been using and has amazing harmonics or overtones..I don't know what you call it but the arm just sounds like music...but there seems to be some bass bloat, or perhaps too much bass sometimes? Hard to explain but in the manual it says you can change the damping of the bass by adjusting the counterweight, it's two pieces screwed together with a rubber o-ring between them. It seems the o-ring on mine is cracked and so I guess I'm just wondering what peoples experience is adjusting this arm for best sound especially that counter weight....I have an email in to Mr. Schroder in the mean time it would be nice to hear how people adjust their CB arm....Thanks!! David

Hi David,

which cartridge are you using in combination with this arm ? Which cartridge mounting plate have you used ? What about your phonostage ?

A picture of your arm in situation would be nice.

Otherwise one of the ways to have more controlled bass is to tighten the screw of the lower part of the counterweight.

François, does the cartridge plate to headshell screw’s tightness have as big an influence on the CB as it does on the Reference? I’ve found paying close attention to this and the counterweight grub screw are critical in getting the best out of the magnet and string pivot arm.

Yes : it is of crucial importance. Each cartridge reacts different and needs a proper torque. I do not believe on this point about a universal torque figure for setting up all cartridges.

The counterweight in itself is certainly one of the parts of a tonearm most exposed to high vibrations induced during playback operations. Having a loose counterweight fitting is thus something that should be avoided at all costs.

I am using a lyra delos on Garrard 401....the arm in the back of the table in a two arm table set up...I have an aluminum cantilevered mounting...I think I may be dealing with some Idler rumble in this position....so today I remounted the thing in the front position and made a new armboard...will post pictures and results soon
