With current circuit design and software implementation, DSD is transmitted either by the industry-standard DSD over PCM (DoP) or between Waversa products using its Native DSD transmission method implemented through Waversa Systems Network Direct Rendering (WNDR). DSD is only processed at the final digital to analog conversion of the Saber ES9038PRO chip.
Waversa Audio Processor only applies PCM algorithms at this time. Waversa is currently beta testing a new proprietary DSD decoder aptly named WAP / DSD. The fundamental concepts of WAP / X that provides Waversa uniqueness in the industry are applied to DSD. All current and future Waversa products featuring current, future or previous generations of this processor will support the unique DSD decoder.
For those individuals who currently own a unit featuring Waversa Audio Processor and use ROON, we recommend setting ROON for automatic WAP processing of DSD files and manual switching to conversion to PCM. This customization will not be necessary once newly released units are on the market and the older generation units are appropriately updated.
In order to do this, first select your Waversa ROON endpoint and find ROON DSP under the speaker icon.
Select “Sample Rate Conversion” and click on the “>” arrow. This will open the window seen to the right in the diagram above. Select “Custom” under “Sample Rate Conversion Settings.”
Customize the conversion in ROON as highlighted above.
Both the Harmonic (WAP-X) and Dynamic Range Enhancement algorithms may be applied by the end-user using the Waversa devices’ web user interfaces, in addition to the automated proprietary hardware processing methods and signal restoration algorithms inherent to the Waversa Audio Processor.
Once your Waversa units are updated to incorporate Waversa’s DSD decoding method (WAP / DSD), the foregoing ROON settings can be reversed. In Roon, simply disable Sample Rate Conversion or revert DSD sampling rates to “Default”.
Remember to trust your ears and enjoy the settings that make sense for you. Waversa strives to improve adaptability to the unique sound environment of every system.
