Really enjoying this camera, for a (cargo) pocketable camera it is a complete pleasure to shoot with vs the Sony RX100, another large sensor/small body cam. My relatively large hands play a role here -- never really liked shooting with the Sony; fussy, imprecise dials and a cumbersome menu system IMO. Love the LX100s positive-feeling dedicated shutter speed and aperture dials. The EVF (avail on the RX100mkIII too) is a major plus in bright sun or not and the readouts in it and external dial system allows for easy shooting without ever taking your eye away from the composition. No need for a PASM dial or menu either as the shutter speed/aperture dials cleverly take care of these choices. The micro 4/3 sensor is also larger than the 1" in the Sony, which should yield low light/noise improvements. Will be testing these parameters and DR vs the Sony in a few weeks.

Downside is size. Where previously my thinking was smallest body/biggest sensor possible, and I could wedge the Sony into a jeans pocket, the LX100 requires a cargo-sized pocket with its protruding lens and somewhat larger body. So I've fallen on the side of a superior and enjoyable shooting experience IMO and larger sensor, and sacrificed portability for my grab 'n go cam.

Glad you like it. Looks great. For me, with a small enough RX1, the size of the RX100mIII is perfect (I've got a small walk around, but sometimes I want truly pocketable). There's definitely trade offs with everything, and it sounds like you've made a good choice for what you want/need.

Much like being an audiophile, it's s great time to be a photographer. Lots of choice. Canon now out with a 1" sensor compact, Ricoh GR, Fuji x100, Sony Rx100. All great machines, and you get to decide what works best for you.

Get out there and shoot.

Only ergo quirk I've experienced so far is that the exposure comp dial can move in the present, albeit ill-fitting, case I'm using. Requires a look before I start shooting. I think a better-fitting case might alleviate this rob though. Usability otherwise had been pleadingly direct. Have gone into the menus exactly this twice this whole vacation week.

Naah, not at all And the extensive external controls make the menu system blessedly small. Just shot some nice 4k vid too
