Gust of 235 miles/hour? That's half the speed of a Jet airplane. Sticking one's head out of a vehicle moving at that speed would be hard to imagine!

I hope everyone is safe and secure.

This is hitting in the South. Same places that got quaked. :(

I'm saying a prayer for everyone in the Philippines. This is one ugly storm.

Yeah as they say, batten down the hatches. :(

Just watched the radar images on national TV. Wow! Katrina hurricane had sustained winds of 125 mph and this is hitting 200 mph!

Fremer's in Manila for an audio show. He reports though that Manila won't bear the brunt of the storm. Here he is with some diehard audiophiles in their audio bunker in the Phillipines.

seated 2nd from left is our very own dafos

So far only light rains here in Manila. We're doing ingress for the show later this afternoon. Even if we aren't bringing bug guns, we're worried.

Landfall made earlier, reports from down south not quite in yet, in other words no really bad news. Let's pray it stays that way.

Figured you had to know some of the people in the pic! :)

I know all of them except for Mikey :)

We're all part of a rather large group from wiredstate.com. Great mix of DIYers and Hi-enders, music lovers all.

Stay safe all. That looks to be a nasty one.

Nasty is an understatement. A very tragic event that happens on the eve of the 10th staging of our local Hi Fi show which is the reason Michael Fremer is here as a guest of honor and to do a workshop on proper analog set up. I'm sure many local audiophiles feel more than just a twinge of guilt as we enjoy this festive affair while so many of our countrymen, if they were lucky to survive, now find themselves in such a desperate situation. Limited feedback due to downed communication and power lines in the typhoons path indicate extensive, if not catastrophic, damage and destruction to a country already battered by so many natural disasters these past few months.

sounds like manila was spared from a live report on CNN. No word on the south. May be days before the extent of damage is known there.

Initial reports indicate that our worst fears may have not materialized in terms of loss of life and extensive damage. I pray that is true and wish the best for our brothers and sisters in the Philippines.

Unfortunately not according to this, which I just now ran across. http://news.yahoo.com/over-100-dead-typhoon-slams-central-philippines-134424159.html Just looking at the photos, this was a catastrophe.

The rescue operation is ongoing, we expect a very high number of fatalities as well as injured," he said. "All systems, all vestiges of modern living — communications, power, water — all are down. Media is down, so there is no way to communicate with the people in a mass sort of way.
