My favorite movie reviews

These are two of my favorite movie reviews. Nothing to do with what you think of the movie, but they are just beautifully written. Thought I would share them here.

To enjoy these, read them carefully, don't gloss over them to see what the movie is like, but enjoy the prose.

I just re-watched The Good, the Bad and the Ugly few nights ago.

Great film, one of my favorites...along with Once Upon a Time in the West.

What strikes the most is the cinematography: Close-ups, long shots and between. And the music scores...Ennio.

In the 'Ugly, Bad & Good' there are some camera shots that are simply artistically very pleasant, well mastered by a true craftsman.
...Before the bridge explosion.

And, there are many imperfections too...in particular with the dialogues. Some actor's lines just don't fit. ...But it's all funny and good. :b
Great westerns that Sergio Leone gave us...the bests.

That's because those actors are Italians. You should catch it when it gets released on big screen. There are some cinemas around which do cultural events, and do a run of Sergei Leone's films.

You're right...I was referring to the English translation.

No, but some of the other actors are, I thought you were referring to their dialogues

Yes, I was referring to the English dialogues of our three main actors. ...Specifically. Sorry I should have mentioned this precision.
I know the scenes exactly...but I'm not sure that I can locate them on youtube. I think that the full 3-hour movie is in there...and I can find the exact time within; would you like me to do?

One of them scenes is with Lee Van Cleef; @ the prison and talking with his commandant superior (general?) laying on his bed inside his shack.
Lee Van Cleef as he is leaving his last phrase is: "We'll see about that."

On that exchange his superior made sure that he's the authority...and he is.
And Lee last line doesn't really fit with all of it...but that's my own opinion.
In my own script I'm not sure that I would let Lee get away with it without a last reply from his superior...but there wasn't.

I realize that this film is few years old, and that's only one of many examples where it could have been scissored (scalped) a little better...that line...in the context of that dialog exchange...I think. But then, Sergio just showed how not caring Lee is towards his superior who had gangrene in one of his legs, and also want to bring Lee in front of a court martial...for his violent behavior with the prisoners.

See, I'm being anal here. :b ...And it's all good of being bad for a guy like "Angel Eyes". ...Great great western. ...Spaghetti from Italy.

And Clint and Eli too have few awkward line deliveries here and there...from the script...or translation. ...The added 'potatoe' scene...with Eli...strange dialog that don't really fit.

I'm being critical...with the good and the bad. That's me...my vision...my opinion.

And what's funny is this: On the Internet as in real life our opinion is not always welcome by all. ...For many reasons: Difference of opinion being the number one, and biased opinion, and also emotional discomfort, plus impaired vision, prejudice, and other personal touches that stop few people of accepting and respecting different views from theirs.
It's life and there is nothing we can change about that.

I give you an example: We're discussing a movie or a music recording...some people love it, others hate it...and sometimes there is no between. See what I mean?
And control can get lost when taken too seriously. ...To the point of 'rejection'. ...Of course that shouldn't be but it's reality because of various generations of different mentalities.

Wars, why they do exist? ...See, just like that...for no good reason. ...Than just a difference of opinion.

Anyhow The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Raging Bull are powerful cinematique films. ...High caliber, very entertaining and involving too...revolving.
That's cool you linked them two reviews by one of the great movie critics. ...RIP Roger.
