Interesting Vivid Listening Rooms (world-wide) - Show Us Yours !

Philip,

How do you recommend leveling the Giya's?

Personally I don't need the spikes under the G1, we listened with and without the spikes and could not hear a difference, due to the reaction canceling woofers bolted together. But if you want to change the listening height, you can set the he rear spikes about ?" higher than the front spikes, that will bring the image down.

We all have different torsos so adjust to taste.

Happy listening

I was thinking more in terms of making sure both speakers are level on the surface they are sitting on if the spikes are used as an interface. In addition how do you suggest taking accurate measurements to get matching heights with a set of speakers?

I have a laser cutting and CnC operation , and I specialise in high quality decorative work etc.
I am busy with a 25mm thick clear acrylic plinth for mine , and the plinth will incorporate a tilt mechanism and more importantly a decent break out box for the speaker cabling so it is easy to change cables or try biamping etc..
I managed to blow off the mesh covers of my bass units last night , playing Yello loud.. bet thats a first :)
(I had Dirac correcting to 15 hz or below , was making the cones have massive excursion.. I set correction to 20hz + and the issue went away)

Rodney,

The first time we showed the prototype Giya G1 back in 2008 at CES in Las Vegas, we also played Yello and knocked he canned lights out of the ceiling. John Atkinson (Stereophile) was most amused when I blew the grills off of the G1 playing some electronic music, driven by the Luxman B1000f monoblocks, which put out humongous current, you can well imagine the Giyas thriving....
We have measured useful bass at the listening chair down to 12Hz, so its not surprising that with electronic music that the woofer excursion is so profound.

Happy listening

Philip

Awesome photos, I just love these. Thanks for sharing!

They truly are works of art!

Lee

Lee,

We have been in discussions with a major museum in NYC for many years now. "They are museum worthy" is what we have been told, but the curators cannot figure out how to display them. Its a little frustrating. It was not for the lack of options that we offered them...

thanks

Philip

I had a great idea I pitched ...
Photograph the shells of the G1/2 and supply cad drawings, run a competition with Art schools as to who can come up with the best artwork for these..
Select the best 3 designs , the prize being $3k and the "artists" can paint em.. African theme would be a good guideline
Put them up for auction with proceeds going to charity...
this can generate enormous publicity and provide 3 lucky recipients one of the best speakers in the world that is TRULY art as well...
I would love to do that to my G1's..I doubt I would ever sell em... unless there is a G0 in the works ??

PS what is the B1 decade?

Thanks for sharing. These are G2 ? What are you driving the Giyas with ? What are the room dimensions ? Is the room lively or damped ? Have you tried many different electronics ?
How would you characterize the sound ?

Ciao

Yes...G2's. Amplifier is ASR Emitter I Exclusive with "turbo" upgraded power supplies (battery for input stage and AC for output). Room is 18x14x9 and is treated with mostly diffusion rather than absorption, so it's more on the live side.

The system is sounding very good. On a scale of 1 to 100 in terms of neutrality (50 being perfect) I would rate it around 60 leaning to the romantic side. That being said, the system is very seductive and often suspends belief.

I have the wonderful Metronome DAC, Bryston server, Shunyata Sigma PC's, High Fidelity Interconnects and speaker cables, Tripoint Troy, Entreq Tellus. I am soon to audition Lampizator B7 DAC and EnKlein cables.

My face lights up when I see folk with room treatment. This looks like a well treated room. Folk underestimate the importance. My pal just got G3's , had em in a compromisig position and bass was overwhelming , some trapping a changing the room/speake/seating position made all the difference.
I actually built my room round the G1's.. cost me around $15k , but then thats what another Devialet would have cost - with far better improvements

In 2009 Kyomi Audio threw a terrific Live versus Recording Music Session, where John Atkinson recorded George Vatchnadze playing a mixed programme of Bach, Chopin, Rachmaninov & Scarlatti on a Steinway D and then played the recording back on the G1 driven by CAT Statement monoblocks and top of the line Esoteric DAC clock etc.
It was an amazing experience, if you ever get a chance to hear George perform - jump at it; he's superb.

George is about to start recording the complete Prokofiev piano sonatas in DSD; I can't wait to hear the recordings...

Is that the same George that I met at Axpona? He looks different...
