Google restructuring: creates Alphabet parent co, managed by Brin and Page

So they are going to have all their subprojects run as individual companies, but the Search company is still going to be the cash cow that provides the money to these companies. I understand the restructuring, but not sure why investors think this is a great idea. Before they were complaining Google was spending too much money on these projects, and nothing has changed there.

The only logical explanation I can give is that they want more of the units to go public, as separate entities of course, operated as mostly-independent divisions
