I don't understand why “The Martian” is in this catagory.

I just started watching the first season of Mozart in the Jungle this weekend. It's really good. The Martian is a comedy?

'The Martian' is a sci-fi/drama flick.

The Golden Globes is a comedy.

* Just in case, I was humorous a little here...on that second sentence.

I actually don't think the Golden Globes are a farce but it is their 2 categories that separates them from the Oscars where there is only ONE BEST whereas for the globes it is a winner for drama and another for music and comedy. Hence the craziness last night. Surely one can't take the Martian as a drama but it is also not a comedy as Ricky Gervais kept joking about last night including Matt Damon.

Also I thought it was a travesty that Jennifer Lawrence won for the third year in a row as best actress (this time in Joy) and I am a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan. I felt her other awards were justified but not at all in Joy where I think she just overacted

Lady Gaga winning told you everything you needed to know about the Globes.

Seems like Brie Larson is in the lead to take home Best Actress at the real thing though.

Like I said; I was lightly humorous Steve.

But here's what I think a little deeper: It is very tough to determine which movie is best, which actor, which actress, etc., and then the voters, the judges, the critics, us.
And it is also easy to be influenced, and biased.
There are also some behind the scenes, some preparation, some politics sort of, some year-to-year adjustment and recompensation (fair distribution).

I can only speak from my own perspective, from what they offer us, from what I make of it.

Movies are fabrications, awards are given to the best fabrications. A great actor/actress...what is it...facial expressions...interaction with CGI effects...well recited dialogs with verve...body language...eyes shifting...hands moving...a natural.
We are preconditioned to certain preference in films, and more films we haven't seen. I haven't.

Tom Hardy; is a guy many talked about. I've seen Tom in few films...and he's a great 'chameleon' actor.
If an actor/actress can have that charismatic connection with their viewers...Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Jean Reno, Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Cate Blanchett, ...they have won half their award already...I really think. The other half is their master craft, their working delivery...interacting.

The Golden Globes; I'm no expert on what determines who ends up with a winning trophy...the voting ballots.
Sure it's TV entertainment...and none truly serious...fun and entertaining...with some great performances during the course of 2015...for the ones who have seem them all.
I'm glad Leo got one of them. ...And I'm also glad for his director.

1. Just the name "Gaga" ... she should change it...I think.
2. I don't know if she is in the serious or comedic category...but her name "Gaga" sounds more or less one way more than the other.
3. Personally...Lady Gaga...as an artist/musician/singer/actress...I won't comment in fear to get burn alive. :b

4. Brie Larson...I am not familiar enough with that actress...only read few here and there and have seen less than I know. But she seems to be @ the top, winning actress for Drama. ...And she's very pretty too.
