Hi everyone,

I have a 6i6 1st gen. I have connected 2 active speakers Yamaha HS80 to it. Now, I am also in a possesion of an old CD player - Yamaha CD 870 and would like to connect it to the interface to listen to my CDs.
The CD player has a fixed and variable line output and a optical and coaxial digital output (picture attached).

Am I able to connect the two devices using an RCA male to RCA male cable, or is there another way?

Also, as the interface has a dedicated power supply, do I need my PC to be turned on to listen to the player in this setup?

Thanks!

Hi,

You have a choice of how you input to the Focusrite. You may either take the digital output of the CD player and use the Focusrite dacs (I would do this myself) or you can go into the analogue inputs via RCA but be aware that you are essentially re-digitising that input - i.e you are doing DA-AD-DA. If you take the digital output you’ll only be doing DA.

In terms of the question on the PC, you’ll need to set the interface parameters up for Redbook CD - that is 16/44. After that, you can disconnect the PC.

Cheers.

Thanks for the immediate response!

In a nutshell, would such a cable solve my problem using the method you suggested:

Sorry, but I am quite a newbee at this kind of stuff...

You need a cable called a spdif cable. The link you provided looks like one but I can’t be sure because it doesn’t give me some information I needed to know to be certain (75 ohm impedance).

I assume you are Italian because of link so here is an Amazon Italy link:
