It still irks me that so much of today's jazz is being mastered with pop music sensibilities, when it should be obvious that the music has no significant audience in that demographic...

The answer is "no". Jazz had its golden age. As did classical, opera, and so many others.

In fact, Sony believing jazz can make a comeback is probably the last nail in the coffin, given their junk bond status. Or them showing up in time for the "death rattle" (thank you Cameron Crowe).

Although they are still building great TVs.
