Are You a Furry as Well as an Audiophile?

At the Hyatt Regency in Schaumburg, Illinois, the steampunk convention is on the same annual cycle as AXPONA. The hotel presently is filled with steampunk practitioners. We also have seen the occasional practicing Furry.

I suspect that there is no obvious connection between the furry subculture and being an audiophile. But it makes one wonder.

Are there any WBF members who are Furries as well audiophiles?

Several potential complications come to mine. For example do Furries like tube electronics, or does the combination occasion too much of a fire hazard?

Do tall furry ears interfere with a full frequency range audiophile experience?

Do you ever practice these hobbies at the same time, or are these disjunctive pursuits?

Please don't do that!:)
Ron, it is better to imagine the folks in audio as Ed Roth characters (see Rat Fink) or Bill Campbell’s Weird-ohs (see Davey) .

Societal coping mechanisms?
For me, I appreciate the therapeutic value of a well made cocktail. And it is completely complimentary to my audiophile tendencies.
Cheers.

Furrys are people who identify as animals, and to make their point, they dress up in costumes that help their identification. At the fringe level, they undress but with accoutrements that identify them like their animal persona, especially ears and tails. Sometimes they scratch their itch by making base role playing videos.

Furrys are just the (il)logical extension of the modern phenomenon that will go unnamed here, where the psychological identity is taken to pre-empt the physiological identity.

Asking who is both an audiophile AND a Furry strikes me as crass at best. I would prefer not to know.

well, I just want to state for the record that the photo at the left is our feline and not me dressed in a costume. Not that I wouldn't mind being that handsome however.

Ok, Ok...but you must admit it is very, very good. Perhaps the best. And therefore appropriate for What's Best Furries.

Furries, I've known a few. Can't think of a more harmless group of folks that just want to pursue their weird passions in peace. They spend a lot of money and time to become furry, only to be laughed at and derided by the general populace. Almost like Audiophiles lol!

On the trip out to AXPONA I met two ladies who were dressed full Steampunk. I spoke to them and told them how fabulous I thought they looked and they told me about the Steam Punk convention. I mentioned that I had just reread a book series by Gail Carriger called the Parasol Protectorate. Its a Steam Punk genre book about a proper Victorian lady who has to deal with Vampires and Werewolves and Steam technology. It is pointed, incredibly funny and insightful, pitting starched conservative Victorian culture against all sorts of messy misadventure.

They squealed and said we know Gail!! We are going to see her this weekend. And we had a merry conversation for a good half an hour.

There was a bespoke tube electronics designer named Josh something in the late nineties that made beautiful Steampunk amps and things out of big dials, brass and copper, with lots of rivets. Looked a bit like the Dan D’Agostino electronics. Anybody remember him and his show stopping creations?
