Are amp, speaker, cable our only tone control

Rex, I meant at high volume too. At lower levels very sweet indeed. But my room dims much more challenging than yours. An eye opener that you say 7W when they're specced to 27W.
Probably for another thread. But what is the usable power of an amp. Is it really 100 watts when stated as such. Or more like 25 watts and then it starts to clip and compress.

Sure. My Nat 211 SETs using twin transformers per chassis are parallel triodes per mono, specced at 70W/ch, although it seems that's conservative and they're closer to 100-110W, as measured a while back.

My Zus need a minimum 40-50W in this room to have sufficient headroom, and I think I'm getting that.

Certainly if I was in a more typically sized listening space (25% size of this room), the Black Shadows 7W could well be enough.

I started another thread on usable power. Amp, speaker, room dynamics are more complex than one may assume.
