Hi friends,

With the OK from our Steve Williams, I'm posting here something that is not really "industry", but that I hope will catch your interest and involvement :)

I would like to introduce to the WBF community the activities of the American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF - http://www.americanitaliancancer.org/ -).
The mission of this no-profit foundation is to support Italian young scientists to access a reference level training in the field of cancer research in prestigious universities of the USA. Moreover, it supports a 100% free program of mobile mammography, dedicated to the women of NYC that are not covered by health insurance ( http://www.americanitaliancancer.org/aicf/programs/Mobile_Cancer_Screening/ ). Finally, the AICF has recently activated a grant dedicated to the research against pancreatic cancer ( http://www.americanitaliancancer.org/aicf/programs/Pancreatic_Cancer_Research_Initiative/ ).

Why am I promoting the AICF?
Firstly, I was an AICF fellow (Aug 2009 - Jul 2011). Honestly, without the AICF I wouldn't have had "my chance" here in the USA! As well as for me, the AICF provided financial support to many talented Italians who came here in the States and contributed to the scientific growth of the Country. Many of us, including myself, have published research papers on top-ranking journals (such as Nature and Science) during the fellowship period, some of the past-fellows are still performing research as trainees, while most of the elders continued a scientific/medical career as group leaders, both here in the USA or in Europe.

Why speaking about the AICF in WBF?
I think that the community of WBF has the sensibility to cultivate broad interests, that overcome the hi-end audio tout-court. The existence of spots in the forum in which we discuss about medical discoveries and advances induced me to invite you to support the association :)

How can the AICF be supported?
As many charity organizations, the AICF is always looking for donations. Most of them occur at the Benefit Gala Dinner, which, this year, will take place on the 14th of November at the prestigious venue of the Raquet & Tennis Club in New York City.
I wish that some of the forumers that live in the NYC area would like to dust-off the tuxedos and buy a ticket for the gala. It will be the occasion to take part to a silent auction and meet fashion authorities such as Daniel Piette (Louis-Vutton), Anna Bulgari or Claudio Del Vecchio (Brooks Brothers).
For those instead who don't live in NYC, there's always the chance to make an independent, but acknowledged, donation (the AICF will provide everything required for the exemptions for the upcoming tax filing).

I wish I managed to catch your interest :)

I suggest you reach out to the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity.

They have lots members with Italian roots on the east coast that might be interested in supporting your event.

Dear Friends,

I am bringing up this thread as the American Italian Cancer Foundation is hosting a new event in New York!

This is the link for a Cocktail Party + Silent Auction that will be held on June 14th 2012 at the Espace in NYC: http://www.americanitaliancancer.org/.docs/_sid/c5f881373f8ae648b0f57f84b4f9d2a7/pg/10902

Tickets are $150 each.
As reported here (http://www.nycharities.org/events/EventLevels.aspx?ETID=4807), for those who would like to provide a smaller donation, it is possible to donate just $25 texting 25YEARS at the number 91011. It's less than the cost of an LP ;) (I've already did twice).

Hope some of you will make it!
