Bourbon

Love a good bourbon (which is made in Kentucky and nowhere else ). Unfortunately I live in a state with government ABC stores, so the selection is somewhat limited. I have to suffer through with the likes of Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve and Buffalo Trace. We're barely pulling through...

Hi Tim,

Yes, Bourbon is kentucky and "Scotch" is Scotland. The interesting thing is that Buffalo Trace is ultimately the maker of Sazerac, i believe. The regular stuff if ok...but the 18-year Rye is stunning. Perhaps if they can source Buffalo trace, someone there can do a special order for you to try?

One of my sons-in-law (clumsy term) is a bourbon collector and investor. He buys future lots of small batch bourbons as well as at sales and auctions. I am very happy to enjoy the "trickle down" from him (figuratively, of course).

I can always have it shipped in. Buffalo Trace has actually become my go-to. It's a $25 bourbon that tastes like fifty bucks. I love a bargain...

Agree. My favorite 25-buck single malt whisky is probably Craggenmore 12.

Would somebody be so kind as to compile a list of your recommendations? Tim, if you think you've got it bad, we get nothing but JD and JB over here!

Jack, here you go. My ranking. (Y) means i own them and know them well. Some notes though not good ones frankly. The rankings means that anything with a '0' is the top of the list and all those are ranked relatively equally, and the next category follows. Since there are 4 whiskys in the top category, the next category starts at 5. You get the basic idea.

not really...i keep this is list in my personal berry mainly to stay organized, and just add whiskys as i go. i added the 'notes' here for WBF, as i only wish to keep the list & ranking. so it was a copy/paste. i appreciate whiskys but am far from serious.

Update...I have gone through a number of whiskys and bourbons over the last few years but recently came across one which is staggeringly good.

Jefferson's Presidential Select 20 Year Old

This is...after the long list below and probably owning a dozen or more different whiskys and/or trying in proper bars different recommendations...one of the single finest bourbons I have had in all these years. Relative to the ranking below, i would comfortably ranking it alongside the top end of the '0' class below (ie, best of the best i have tasted).

And it would be the least expensive of those without doubt, the next being the Springbank 21 of which I have bought 3 different years and 5 bottles.
