The greatest thing about the tour, it tests all aspects of a riders skill over the three weeks. You must be a great climber, fast and fearless descender, amazingly strong in the time trial. The only place a tour winner need not be amoung the elite is in the final sprint. You need cunning strategy and ability to respond to the attacks from your rivals. And super human endurance. I can think of no other sport that is a grueling and demanding on the body.
so bored of Froome winning, but what can you say. he deserved it.
he basically won the Tour this year because of the 2 TTs. He never dropped anyone on a climb unlike prior years. He also has the best team still despite the Thomas crash - Landa and Kwiatkowski won Chris the tour this year.
In 1969, Merckx brought back the yellow jersey but also the green one with six victories, the best climber and the award of the most aggressive rider. He was also riding the classics and other big tours.
Eddy, the king of the cobbles, the unsatiated killer of his fellow hard men, is out there, getting one more ride in, putting in the hard kilometers, so he can break the souls of lesser men on climbs, on the cobbles, in the sprints, when it matters.
THE PROPHET’S PRAYER
Our Hardman who art in Belgium
Eddy be thy name
Thy cobbles come, thy hands are numb
From pavé
As it isn’t heaven.
Give us this day our daily V*,
And forgive us our Rule violations,
As we drop those who attack against us,
Lead us not off our line
But deliver us from Anti-V.
For thine is the big ring,
And the power, and the glory,
For Eddy and ever.
A-Merckx.

you have to be well rounded obviously. Froome is a very good climber...It's the TT where he really excels and kills the other GC contenders who are better climbers.
