New speaker choice

One other option but again i don't think i can get Borresen-Humboldt performance is to purchase Thiel CS 3.7s again but this time pair it with Gryphon Antileon Evo and CH Presicion L1 linestage.
I'm almost 100% sure that this has never been done, it would be the best Thiel system ever built lol.

Another interesting choice might be Tidal Piano G2 - I preferred them to Borresen 3 with Vitus and also Humboldt!!
im also shopping for amplifiers and have heard CH L1 with Antilion- I found fantastic - warmer than Humboldt, plenty of resolution - Humboldt had a more complete sound stage if that’s your things.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned ATC speakers.

An interesting speaker that hasn't come up in this thread and might we worth looking at is the Audiovector R8. It would be a direct competitor to the to Borresen 03 or even the R6 Arete as an alternative to YG Hailey. They have some fascinating tech incorporated into the speakers that I think would be interesting to hear folks POV on.

Speaking of British speakers. Why not the KEF Blade or Blade 2? I hear that KEF's new Meta technology will be making its way to these models.

So, might get a good deal on the current generation. If not, I'm sure the Blade "Meta" or whatever they call it will be worth your consideration.

Stunning speaker both visually and sonically. Very different to the Hailey though - I would suggest the R8 is like taking a sip of your favourite whiskey as it gives you a warm glow inside. This is definitely not the YG, and I say this as liking both speakers very much.

Anyone heard the new Marten Parker Quintet ?

That is an outstanding description. Thank you for sharing. I have yet to hear these but it sounds like these lack the brightness and edge that many less expensive AMT based speakers suffer from.

I personally have not but a friend heard the Parkers at the Taipan Audio show a couple weeks ago. Said that other than the Focal Room which had Grande Utopias and Naim Statement gear and the MBL Room, Marten was the next best sounding room featuring the Parker Diamonds.

He is very into imaging and soundstage and said they were extremely natural but with a huge soundstage.

I have heard the Coltrane Supreme 2 driven by Darzeel 458 monoblock, it was terrible the 458 monos were not able to drive these big boys such a shame for such crazy expensive gear.

Was that at the disaster they had at the Munich Show? They blew the Coltrane's out and were running Oscar Duos next to them for like the first two days of the show.

I have heard Magico S3 in the past and was very disappointed.
I will try to give the A5s a chance

During a 3 day side by side home audition, I prefered the Magico A5 to Hailey 2.2. Both were driven by Constellation Centaur 500 monos.
Source is DCS Bartok

Magico A5 had a more lively sound, more bite, more drama, better bottom end and to my 50 year old ears, more detail and better seperation.
YG Hailey 2.2 sounder more refined and had a much better fit n finish though.

Between the two, if both were free, which one would you take home?

Interesting thanks for your input.

I'm going to go make a shootout between two big ATC active models, very curious about that.

Hello Ron,

Both were at close price brackets, YG Hailey 2.2 being used whereas Magico A5 brand new.

So my choice would be same even if they were offered free and brand new (neglecting the "earning" from having a higher priced item for free, that is YG and focusing purely on musical satisfaction)

I sent YG Hailey 2.2 back and am still auditioning the Magico A5.

This time I am driving it with Gryphon Antileon Signature Stereo for a change and it is amazing in terms of resolution, soundstage, image focus and dynamics without ever singing harsh or bright on either amplifiers.

The other contenders I listened but did not home audit were:

Zellaton Stage (Very open, but thought that more base would be nice)
YG Anat II (very good speaker, highs more to my liking than Hailey 2.2 )
Tad Evolution 1 (liked this much, but could not decide without testing it at home)
Tidal Contriva Piano Diacera (impressive, would love to try it at home)
Wilson Alexia 2 (Maybe it was the setup but I left unimpressed, will give it a second chance though)

Any ideas?

You might want to check out Borresen 03s if you can find a dealer that carries them.
The 05s are my dream speakers but will have to wait a couple of years to find them used at reasonable prices.

I am sure they are special as I have come across people who like them a lot.
Being a relatively young brand, do you think they are here to stay or will be considered passe in due time which seems to be the case with Raidho?

IMO they will stay but prices are going to drop fast like Raidhos on the used market.
MSRP is way to high therefore better to wait for used pairs.
Build quality is awsome though.
