Thomas Mayer/Elrog tubes - especially 211s and Molybdenum Plate 211s

Nope, only a quad needed in total.

Elrog Molys costs eur 2700 a pair. So if you are thinking about eight of them that is around GBP 10k and not GBP 6k. And if you British keep going strong with your new ‘top noth PM’ ;) in a few months time you are talking about much more money in GBP.

Well if we go out with no deal you will not believe how quickly deals will be made.

Money talks louder than politics.

Justin, these are made abroad? Just AN have distribo rights?

Might be; so let's see. That said some tough (or even rough) economic years lie ahead of you and the GBP is likely going to 'suffer'(as it is already doing).

My potential Zu purchase already 50% pricier than wrt 18 months ago

I heard 50 percent voted for brexit to keep speakers like Zu out of the country.

Look on the positive side, There will be no import duty on it after brexit. You won't be paying much tax on your income either. And you won't have to spend on travel as europe will be too expensive, do more savings

Good job you did most of your hi-fi touring when you did:D

Yes Ked.
I can chop my Zus into firewood when fuel bills rocket.
By the way, it was 52%.

Pass that bottle of whatever it is obviously mind altering stuff!!!:)

Over a decade on the hardstuff, and I'm buying more Zus.

Justin, the chapel here needing £60-80k spent on it, and my poor old wrists telling me I've only got a few years left in this lark, indicates to me it won't be new Zus. Or Apogees. Or indeed any other big ticket purchase.
But some nice 211s? Hmm?...

Look at how hot those Molys look to be running in my pic.... the plates are glowing massively.
Hi!

The molybdenum plates are supposed to glow orange in normal operating conditions for an output tube. They are not running any hotter than the graphite plate 211.

And yes the internal structure has been changed in 2017 to move the system higher up and have the heat dissipated towards the top

Best regards

Thomas

Surely less self abuse will see you through new Zus and the renovation work?:D

I am sure that is what you were hinting at? No?:)

It's just a 10V heater but I suspect if you could take the temp of the molybdenum it would be higher than a carbon plate.

A bit difficult to test...

What I did think a little odd at Munich was that one of the plates was glowing more than the other and you can see it in the picture. Manufacturing / spacing tolerances maybe?

The ELROGs are the prettiest... love the way they look. Tom's just posted so send him an e-mail;)

Less self abuse? In THIS hobby? You're joking, yes?

Basically Justin, after a decade plus as a single man, of being able to spend as freely as I wanted in this hobby, I now have TWO women in my life. Ra, who actually never fully twists my arm, and Victoria, our lovely chapel, who is like the most grand of ladies, makes a Hell of a statement, and requires constant gratification. She is insatiable.

Maybe because you were pursuing the hobby spending so much that decade you were a single man? Confusing cause and effect?
