I am not into watches at all, but for some reason I find the Rolex Daytona in yellow gold with the black (really shimmery purple) mother of pearl dial totally beautiful!
Honestly I just like watching YouTube videos of them being cleaned/assembled. Wearing a watch is about as comfortable to me as wool is to the eyeball. Maybe someday that will change. I do find watches attractive.
Your choice is nice, but challenging to wear.
In the lineup it’s slim for what I like right now;
We’ve had a few in our family and would agree that the MOP (Mother of Pearl) dial can work very nicely with some gold. My wife once had a two tone Yachtmaster with brown shaded MOP dial and that was a nice combination. Need to try a few on your wrist to find what works best and some of the new Everose models look quite attractive. My personal fave? A customised no date Submariner with DLC black coating and navy nato strap.
I used to work with the wife of the lead designer of Daytona2. Interesting annecdote. He lent me the prototype to wear for about an hour in 1998. I uniquely had a glass back.
I couldn't pick just one, so here is the two I would gun for. My first pick is a complete pipe dream - the Rolex Oyster LED...the Oyster that never was. Rolex produced 5 prototypes back in the 70's (Ref No.7065). 4 were destroyed, and 1 was allegedly stolen by an employee, making the last remaining example the rarest and most collectable Rolex of all!
But my realistic pick is the 2019 Yacht-Master II. I love it's nautical look, blue ceramic bezel & the overall aesthetic appeal of the dial and hands, with a mix of white, blue & red. Most other models are way too common & copied.
I was in the watch Industry for a few years and worked for the largest pre-owned site on the web.
The watches you want to own are Stainless Steel sport watches,
Submariners, Daytona's, Sky dwellers, deep sea and last but not least date just. The precious metal watches do not hold their values nor do the two tone watches,
Daytona watches routinely sell for over the list price and the recent sky dwellers in SS are selling for 4-8k over list pre owned.
Which one you like is up to you.
You might revisit Rolex - I did not like them for years, but Rolex is now one of the best watchmakers, period. All of their materials are even made in-house - 904 steel is exceptional material.
1. Rolex is now within 2 seconds a day - the newer 3255 movement is one of the most accurate in the world. My IWCs dream of that accuracy despite the nice finished movements.
2. Hublot is a bling watch, sorry, and horologically uninteresting.
Richard Mille is now the "opulent" and hotly debated brand - their pieces are $100k to over $1mm!
