She's a really engaging performer live. 'Just a Little Lovin' was the official song of the hi-end rooms in the Venetian at CES this year. Heard it twenty times minimum. Some others to check out though a little more rocky than Melody Gardot are Cat Power, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Feist.

you will probably like this album

One of my favorite albums!! Beautifully analog - even the CD. I bought both CD and LP based on an interview she did with a paper magazine where she talked about producing it using tape, vacuum tubes, ribbon mics, etc. Now, if that interview was available in digital form, I would have linked it.... but I can't find it. And the paper magazine would have been thrown out a long time ago.

I must have been one of those guilty...... I had the Lost Highway clear vinyl edition which I thought was better than the first press, and then Chad Kassem turned up and gave me a QRP test pressing that sounded even better. Unfortunately, it was definitely an early test pressing because there were cutting errors which killed some of the tracks. What a pity!!

This Shelby Lynn album is just stunning, and completely analog, all the way to vintage tube mic preamps.

Tim

This album must be indeed stunning for Tim to give credit to anything analog based. I will have to pick it up.

However, I personally prefer Paula Cole.....something about that voice that melts me....

As I've said many times before, most of my favorite recordings are analog. It's vinyl, the distribution medium, that I'm not fond of.

Jen Chapin, Harry Chapin's daughter, normally has very well recorded music.

One of my favorites is an album of Stevie Wonder covers done a few years ago...

I like Sophie Milman and Melody Gardot, ...Shelby Lynne has couple great albums.
But I much prefer Madeleine Peyroux and Patricia Barber and Holly Cole and Cassandra Wilson. ...Personal music preference (vocals and music accompaniment - smooth jazz). ...Overall, from repeated listening sessions.

I'm big on the last four, and got all Melody's album...but Madeleine Peyroux has a special place deep in my heart.

________

* Sophie sounds like Melody @ times:

? Listen to the music recording on this tune...the reverb, the sustain, the delay, the studio atmosphere, the mic, the instrument's precision, the quality care, the analog tremolo, the overall aura. ...Very nice.

Cecile is a pretty good one to check out. Her debut album WomanChild is a must have. A few others I'd suggest, very much in that same sultry mode as Melody and Sophie, would be Jane Monheit, Laura Fygi, Marilyn Scott, Jeanie Bryson (Dizzy's daughter), Rachelle Ferrell, Kellye Gray (Standards in Gray is highly recommended) . China Moses, daughter of Dee Dee Bridgewater, has an album she did with Ralphael Lemmonier called This One is for Dinah that's pretty nice too. Currently, I have Jaimee Paul, Somi and Zara McFarlane on heavy rotation.

I have always been a big fan of 'Lyambiko' and her trio. They have a number of disc out and they are very, very well recorded IMHO, which is an added plus. Her covers of Black Coffee and Afro Blue are superb. It certainly doesn't hurt that this trio can really play.

Now that is my type of music :)

Before I pull the trigger on the CD, are there any downloads available? I checked a handful of sources with no luck.
