George Cardas Listening Room on YouTube

That Spotheim TT is a work of art, but I can see why he has his eyes closed. Having to watch that thing rotate constantly would drive me insane. Certainly not a critisism on his choice, just a personal observation.

Nice to 'listen in' with George Cardas. Tympani's from Magnepan. Lovely.

Cool, looked like Magnepan Tympani loudspeakers. Somehow I knew he had to be a panel guy.

Tympani in name only :) George has gutted the speakers, redone the xover, rewired the speakers (including changing the wire on the panels themselves), etc. So I'd really like to hear them because they're one of a kind!

Probably nice and cozy in the winter months. Those amps probably raise the temperature at least 5 degrees or so. Nice equipment but he really could rethink that chair.

I call shenanigans.

Didn't get to see his 'room' at all. I was looking forward to seeing the treatments he had etc, instead the usual audiophile guff of 'bling components'. Ok cool, the amps etc cost a motza, but I wanted to see his room!

It's like browsing those sites where people post pics of their system, all you see are expensive amps. Yawn.

Show us the room it is situated in I say.

Oh, and people don't spend that amount of money on gear to listen to music like that...do they?

Really?

Watch the video again, this time more closely. It's his dog's favorite music, George is enjoying the dogs company after dealing with audiophiles all week.

Ohhhh...thought George left that job to Colleen :)

ahh, got it.

and I also understand the stress of dealing with audiophiles.

they can be a picky bunch!

I personally don't like the looks of that turntable. Also, it was funny to see the record was warped and the tonearm was weaving to and fro. The digital lovers will have a field day with this video.

I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder :) Personally I love the looks (and sound) of Judy's table. The SPJ also looks a lot better in person. Judy is a very interesting lady-sort of the Israeli equivalant of Enid Lumley. A good friend of mine corresponds with Judy and it's really interesting to read her insights into improving the sound of our audio systems (and being a women, probably has a lot better hearing too :) ).

:D ...
The record clearly is warped ... I guess this doesn't affect his cartridge performance...

I am however with terryj on this.. Strikes me more as personality cult trip than anything else ... a commercial ...If that helps him sells his products ... more power to him ...

Actually George doesn't need any advertising. Cardas is one of the most established and well known cables companies out there.

George is actually one of he nicest people in the industry and the most laid back too. And few support the industry like George does. And look at his ads; they match his low key personality.

He, George may not need but his company does... So this YouTube video is a sharing-the-moment-with-fellow-audiophiles? What for then?

Out there in Audiophile-land maybe he may be known out there in the general non-audiophile public Monster is king with others such as Audioquest or Straightwire making some headway ... Cardas is unknown there

I disagree and in the real serious foreign markets, such as HK and China, where lately I think are the last vestiges of real high end audiophiles based on what I'm reading lately, George is king.

And not every high-end audio company advertises, case in point Spectral. When was the last time you saw a Spectral ad? They have all the business they think they need w/o advertising. Also, when was the last time you saw a VPI ad? My old mag was one of the few places Harry and Sheila ran ads. But they are arguably the leading turntable manufacturer in the world today.

Geez I can almost hear the screams if someone starting talking about single-ended amps here.

I want to second what Myles has said about George being a real gentleman. I have corresponded with George on numerous occasions on room acoustics and he couldn't have been more helpful and I have never bought a thing from the man. That being said, I still think the video is a bit weird and the turntable butt ugly in a gaudy jewelry looks-like-it-was-designed-by-a-woman kind of way. If I was going to shoot a video of my table playing a record, I promise you that I would play a record that was flat and my arm wasn't swinging around. The last thing I would want to do is give the digital heathens something to howl about.

This is what I said in my last post:

I never alluded to his personality or behavior simply that his company advertises. If you go to Best Buy it is unlikely to find a Cardas cable , as for Monster that could be all they sell as "Audiophile" Cables ... That's all

Then I said the record was warped and it is then I asked if that was a "share-the-moment" with his fellow audiophile video or a simple advertising which is absolutely OK.. The man has a business and he's trying to make it work. Fair , correct, honorable and ethical ... What's wrong with my statements ?
We can discuss the notion of "vestiges of real high end" in another thread if you want.

i almost purchased a La Luce back in 2001 when i bought my Rockport. my friend Winston Ma had/has one still. George lives on the Oregon coast and so we see him here locally from time to time. he is a class act.

i've sort of moved on from acrylic as a platter or plinth material. in person that tt certainly makes a powerful visual statement. like any 'art' it's appreciation is in the eye of the beholder.

The Wavestream Kinetics amplifiers are spectacular sounding!
