I've probably bought well over 100 pieces of music this past year. The one that shines out more than anything is:

Neil Young: Massey Hall 1971
Neil Young - Mass&#.jpg

Some honourable mentions:

Dexter Gordon - One Flight Up
Frank Sinatra - At The Sands

I discovered Herbie Hancock's "Gershwin's World" just this last year. Played it to death.

Yesterday by Beegie Adair. It's a collection of Beatles songs on solo piano. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Peter Gabriel / So - this is a remaster this year... killer perfomance and recording!
Patrick O'hearn / Glaciation - New Age, incredible recording and has content.
Lee Ritenour's Six String Theory - He plays with the likes of Keb Mo, Taj Mahal,Pat Martino,George Benson,BB King, etc. State of the art recording and stellar performance.
Sacred Treasures III Choral Masterworks from Russia and Beyond - Very beautifull and high res !
Steve Roach / Dreamtime Return - remaster that transcends new age ( not bubble gum new age) meaty!

This Massey Hall album is perhaps the most natural sounding LP in my collection. Absolutely reference quality.

I wholeheartedly agree, and I've bought some more standouts since that purchase. Nothing so far has matched the delivery of pure reference quality that Massey Hall has!

Since I have to choose just one recording there is clear winner:

Gershwin By Grofe: Symphonic Jazz (Harmonie Ensemble New York / Steven Richman )

Close second would be an LP from the lot of 23 hat Hut Records mint double and triple albums I got with a large collection I bough in 2010. Great music.

I bought 60-70 CDs or sets in 2010. Lots of good stuff but mostly filling in gaps. it is hard to pick high points but I'll try.

- Haydn: String Quartets, Op. 33 - Apponyi Quartet
HIP performances that really fit this music

- The Bight Mississippi - Allen Toussaint
Good sound and first rate performances from a New Orleans musician.

- The Dirty Dancing Soundtrack and More Dirty Dancing
Music I grew up with.

- Mozart, various serenades and divertmenti - conducted by Sandor Vegh.
Vegh had a feel for Mozart that makes minor works like the Divertimento K. 251 very enjoyable.

- Rossini, Overtures - Reiner, Chicago Symphony. The performances are marvels of precision playing that serves Rossini very well. This RCA Living Stereo CD benefits from re-mastering that removes some distortion that was present in an earlier CD release.
