McIntosh Cartridges, and tonearms.........but no mention of 1970's turntable development?

In the late 1970's, Bob Graham, an engineer at MIT, became acquainted with Gordon and had a tonearm that he wanted to market

What took so long for them to make a McIntosh turntable?

What is the real story behind this glowing revolver?

It has been out for several years. It is a rebranded Clearaudio with the Mac fascia.

I know it's been out several years, but never heard it was a "rebranded" Clearaudio.

I know the Marantz TT is a pretty straightforward a Clearaudio.

I still wonder what the driving impetus behind the MT10 was/is.

Just simple profit?

I'm pretty sure that Carl is right about the Mac table being made for them by Clearaudio (as is the Marantz).

As far as motivation, I think that many manufacturers would like to be able to sell a complete system from top to bottom eg. source, electronics and speakers. A few companies such as Krell, conrad-johnson have tried this approach with mixed results.

I agree with Myles, I think this was more of a move to create a complete McIntosh system offering for those who wanted one.
I love my McIntosh meters on my MC352Amp, but a meter on a TT just doesn't make sense to me. The needle never moves. It stays at 33, or 45.
I do believe it is a Clearaudio TT made over with the McIntosh glass.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it a rebadge. The arm resembles the CA Satisfy but differ in a lot of ways some as fundamental as the bearing materials. They clearly have a production run of their own that differ in engineering rather than just aesthetics. There's also no CA plinth that even remotely resembles that of the McIntosh. What I find curious is the counter weight. One rarely finds a drop type weight on anything other than a Unipivot.
