A very good collection of chamber works here by composer and concentration camp survivor Szymon Laks (1901 - 1983). His output appears small, but he had a fine melodic sense and wrote some lovely music. The standouts here, I feel, are his String Quartet No. 4, and his Piano Quintet.

Cool! Have you heard Markovina's works of these pieces? I am listening to them now...she recorded ALL of CPE's keyboard music. So a big box. Curious if you have compared.

I love all three, very different styles!

Markovina is a magnificent middle ground between the liquid ease of Hamelin and the forceful approach of Pletnev.

A very balanced take, showing how modern and I dare say pianistic was CPE writing for keyboard.

Sonics are great as well, perhaps the Hyperion disc is the grander sounding, very impressive (I use headphones only).

Recorded in 1981 when Ricci was 63.
Reissued in Hybrid SACD format.

This is one of the most satisfying "new" Bach Violin Solo ablums I have purchsed during the past several years.

The music flows beautifully!

Funny that you mentioned his modernity. I was thinking exactly the same thing with one of his symphonies I was listening to on the Berlin Philharmonic streaming app. How fresh and modern he sounded to me at the moment. I suppose it’s mostly because we’re not listening with an historical ear, but probably also because of C.P.E. Bach’s inventiveness and avoidance of musical cliches.

The Byron Janis Mercury is brilliant for the piano version, also on CD.
Interesting...I have the Guillou and Albrecht on organ and I believe the Ashkenazy and the Brendel on piano. Will have to look for the Janis.
