This is a dedicated and official thread about the all new Rei amplifier from WestminsterLab.



The Rei is a brand new Class A mono-block produced by WestminsterLab and recently been awarded Editors Choice from Mono and Stereo.

Each and every resistor in Rei are hand matched one by one to ensure the symmetric schematic of the Rei is as symmetric as possible. We meant it when we say we are obsessed with every single details.

It is interesting how they rate the amp power output in stereo and mono/brdiged mode. This one has 100w/8 ohm in stereo and instead of doubling to 200 it mentions 400w/8 ohm on bridge mode. Little hard to understand.
On the other extreme, Gryphon essence mentions 50w/8 ohm in stereo and 55w/8 ohm mono.
Sometimes, it is not simple math.

P=V^2 / R. So if the power supply, transistors and regulators are allowed, the Power will be x4 as the voltage doubles ( In bridged mode, the output voltage will be doubled ).

StereoSound Japan has done a listening test comparing a Single Pair / Dual Pair / Bridged config test. And it has been described by him ( a very experienced and senior critic in Japan ) Best 5 sound he has experienced in his life.

Looking for advice on pre-amps with the Rei. Currently I am running the Lumin X1 directly into the Rei. The Quest is cost prohibitive because of the weak yen. I can get the Accuphase C3900 at about 1/3 less than the Quest and was wondering if any one has had this combination and/or what other choices I can look into? Previously I was using the Luxman M900u/c900u combination. Speakers are Dali Epicon 6. Any advice is appreciated.

Question for Angus or Gary: I just read this article and it certainly confirms what you fellows have been telling me about bridging the REIs. But why not simply offer a new version of the REI with double the power? Economy of scale with same sonic improvement?
