Everyone else has a list so why not me? All available on vinyl.

Fiona Apple "The Idler Wheel...", Epic

Beach House "Bloom", Subpop (45 rpm)

Calexico "Spiritoso", Anti Records
"Algiers" is one of the best LPs of the year but this collaboration with Radio Symphony Orchestra of Vienna takes things to a different level.

Leonard Cohen "Old Ideas", Columbia
If this ends up being his last studio album, it's a hell of a valedictory. Extremely well recorded.

Dirty Projectors "Swing Lo Magellan", Domino

Galactic "Carnivale Electrios", Anti Records

Heartless Bastards "Arrow", Partisan Records

Jamey Johnson "Living For A Song", Mercury

Damien Jurado "Maraqopa", Secretly Canadian

Pond "Beard, Wives, Denim", Modular
This is a side project for the rhythm section of Tame Impala whose "Lonerism" is also a terrific 2012 release

Cat Power "Sun", Matador

Smoke Fairies "Blood Speaks", V2 Records

Jack White "Blunderbuss", Third Man Records
Best single and coolest video of the year..."16 Saltines"

Of course this is a shameless plug for everyone to list their favorite LPs so I can try learn about new music! :D

My favorite 2012 Jazz Releases

JD Allen "The Matador and The Bull", Savant
This album demands your attention. I've met the artist and he's an even nicer person than he is a talented saxophonist.

The Bad Plus "Made Possible", Entertainment One Plus
Their second album of all original compositions. These guys just keep getting better and better. Well recorded.

Anat Cohen "Claroscuro", Anzic
Another great record from Anat.

Ravi Coltrane "Spirit Fiction", Blue Note
My favorite jazz release this year. *Features Geri Allen on piano. *Well recorded.

Wycliffe Gordon "Dreams of New Orleans", Chesky
Classic New Orleans jazz re-imagined.

Hot Club of Detroit "Junction", Mack Avenue
Just picked this one up. Great music and a sonic spectacular.

Vijay Iyer "Accelerando", Act Music & Vision (Vinyl)
My favorite trio release of 2012.

Jeremy Pelt "Soul", High Note
Ho hum, another great record from one of the best working bands out there. Features JD Allen on saxophone.

Brad Mehldau Trio "Where Do You Start?"
Great mix of originals and standards. 'Hey Joe' is worth the price alone. Well recorded.

A couple more that should have been on my previous lists:

The Winterpills "All My Lovely Goners"

Dave Douglas "Be Still My Soul"
Homage to his late mother. Well recorded on 180 gm vinyl.

And one from 2011 that I didn't find out about until 2012 (does that count?)

Audioquest actually bought my brother several new records (that could be replaced) when their mat left deposits on his LPs.

Mark, what should the mat be washed with, and how often?

The mat was still good in 2001, when it was last used.

Lee-I actually owned the revised AR table many years ago and I had a Premier MMT arm on it. I bought the AQ mat and really liked it back in the day. I used to wash mine every couple of weeks in the kitchen sink using Joy dish-washing detergent and then pat it dry with a clean lint free towel. It always made the mat "like new." I would say how often you have to clean it would be dependent upon how dirty your records are and how dusty your environment is. If the mat looks dirty and doesn't feel "sticky,' it's time to wash it.
