Swiss Physics is an old Suisse company that was born around half 1980 years and his founder was the engineer Mario Del Nobile, then after 10 years around the company broken and he went to work in Goldmund.
This company produced one preamp,Model 5 and 2 stereo amp 6A and 12 A,with double power.
The price was in 1993 12.500.000 lire ( 6.500 euro ) the preamp and 12.000.000 lire ( 6.000 euro ) the amp.
I tried the amp in 1992 and found very very good but having Mark Levinson ML 6B and N 20 i had no interest to buy

There is one stock in Suisse NOS because one supplier bought all the stock and i knew that one near my city,40 km,can take at a cheap price and i bought.

The preamp model 5 is only unbalanced, with 10 input, including Phono MM and MC where the MC input read and adjust all the cartridges without regulation and has an external power supply.

The MC input impedance is designated as floating which is to say it depends on the connected cartridges impedance and that compensation for different types of cartridge is automatic and directly affects the response curve making adjustment for MC cartridge resonance.

Its a very high speed circuits with 50 ohms output impedance

The amp model 6A is a dual mono pure class A,160 watt 8 ohm and 275 watt 4 ohm,
and has 8 transistor each channel Hitachi H 175 and J 55 and Philips capacitors
Has 6 small silent fan

I am listening now, need break in,are new,and sound is incredible
Very fast and natural, very detailed and sweet with deep bass and dense sound and very good on voice.
Also my friend bought,he has ML 32 and 33 and Riviera pre and mono amp, sure better than ML and with little more details of Riviera with his Wilson X1

Ch is better naturally.
This you can compare to ML 6B and N 20,Cello Suite and Performance,Rowland M7,ecc
Sure if you have you will live with this for ever

I also bought a pair from the same source.
I always wanted to put my hands on the pair, and i finally did.
At the moment i’m only using the 5 ,and wait for a 1.5Kva step down trasformer (250/220V) for the 6A (220V)for peace of mind as i have close to 250V coming from my UK wall socket.
What can i say?
The result from my PD MPS5 into the linestage connected to my beloved Gamut D200MK3 driving a pair of Exclusive 2251 is impressive.
Cant wait to try the 6A....even if the comparison against the Gamut,is going to be a tough one, for sure

Hello Gian,
Your post & photos brought back so much memory!
Swiss Physics was once a very top brand in Hong Kong in the 80s. One of the dream Swiss brands then.

BTW it's experience of HK audiophiles that those blue colour Philips caps inside the Swiss Physics being prone to aging & leaking which might demage the circuit board.
Pls check them up.

If my memory is right, the volume pot in the Model 5 Preamp is a Penny & Gilles.

A good NOS of it can cost nearly usd800 in HK.

The caps cover would become brittle and crack as shown in the pic. It was then not uncommon to have the cap arc to the board damaging everything around it. Leaking? Far less common.

We want to forget because we are near 2020 and those was very good products in 1985/87 and also expensive if you find today.
I forgot when i knew Yamamura and Imai

This Swiss Physics has similar quality at 2.800 euro,so for a second system are really no bad

No, they sucked back then too just very hyped up by the magazines of the day. I learnt what to avoid in the future after owning that stuff, including Krells and the other horrible electronics recommended by Pearson and Holt those days. My experience with all those brands and almost everything recommended by HP is only negative.

If they were built 30 years ago they will probably need replacing all the electrolytic capacitors as preventive maintenance. Although they can operate the capacitors will probably have some capacitance loss, leakage or higher ESR.

Hi David,
i am agree with you,i tried many Krell, also the reference 200 but never liked and never bought one Krell in my life,Cello not very natural,Rowland too soft,YBA little dry without body,
Liked and had only ML 6B and N 20 and Jadis jp 200 and Ja 200 and 500,even if old 500 was no good, powerful, but slow, dark and too full on mid bass

Knew Yamamura i was in heaven in 1990
