I recently aqiuried a Modwright Tryst headphone amp, it is an incredibly smooth amp, it produces 3W into 18ohms and provides ample juice to drive and controls my LCD-4s with aplomb. The bass is controlled clean and clear. My first listen was to Casandra Wilson’s Traveling Miles. Bass was present but her voice is presented so rich and smooth I thought the amp was accurate but a little bass shy, where was that legendary planar driver bass? It turns out the bass was being played & present, but the album artists chose not to make this a bass heavy album. Cassandra's voice is presented with a richness best described as silk flowing on a chocolate river. The Tryst then surprised me, I cued up Theo Croker Quartet – Jazz At Berlin Philharmonic XII - Sketches Of Miles, wow during “Footprints” I thought the headphones were going to shake off of my head.

The Tryst presents smoothy and maintains assertive control over the full range of the music presented to it, and it can be really fast when called upon (Hendrix). The focus and imaging are natural (neither forward nor recessed) and the soundstage is very large. Full class “A” and 0 feedback. There is a 3.5mm jack which I tried with a set of Sennheiser IE 600s… dead quiet. What an amp!
