The Mellotron is my absolute fave instrument. Most will have heard its sound, but maybe not be familiar with the instrument itself:

It is basically an ancient sampler! You might've heard its sound on early Moody Blues, psychedelia-era Beatles and Stones, and most of the early prog stalwarts (King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, etc.)

And today, I got word that one my favourite keyboardists, John Medeski, along with 3 other Mellotron nuts, create an entire album, live, with only mellotrons!

They filmed the whole thing, and it's pretty damn cool! It has a proto-electronica vibe, very soundtracky.
