Dear all,

After listening to the JBL 4344 family, and a chance to acquire a pair of modified 4344 from my friend who owns a pair of the Kenrick 4346 (ref. http://jbl43.com/?pid=12782155). I am considering to change my amp (which is Nagra VPA 845) to either Accuphase E-650 or McIntosh MA8900. My major genre are Jazz, chamber music, female vocal and live music. Sometimes Classical.

My DAC is Lampizator Atlantic Plus (with PreAmp)

My room Measure 7m wide, 5m depth, and 2.5m height. Thanks.

How is your 4344 modified? Generally speaking the stock 4344 is a wonderfully musical speaker with great bass, easy to drive with even a 20 watt SET, you don't need the power so why would you want to kill the sound with an Accuphase or a high powered SS Mac? What's lacking in your sound now?

Thanks David,

Since most people telling me that the Accuphase, McIntosh and Mark Levinson will be the best match for JBL 43xx speakers.

The KRS 4346 is a modified version of 4344 with less occupied area (50cm x 38cm) which fit for my listening room (i.e. living room) in HONG KONG.

The 4346 has same volume as per the 4344 but taller and different arrangement of the drivers of 4344.

Actually the Nagra VPA 845 does sounds great, but in terms of matching the Accuphase, McIntosh and ML shall be a better match.

I don't know what Kenrick modification was with this JBL. But I was thinking the same as ddk. What seems to be missing?

Kind regards,
Tang

The KRS4346 is a renewed 4344 in different cabinet with same volume but different dimension. Sounds exactly the same as per the original. Kenrick is really famous of renewing work of JBL 43xx family in Asia.

nothing is missing, I just want to change my set up for some new refreshment. But just considering either Accuphase vs. McIntosh. ;)

I've owned many vintage JBLs including most 43xx series speakers (but never even heard of the 4346) and they all sound best with high end tube amps. Not sure who advised you on those other ss amps or the reason why, I would stick with tubes.
