Hot Pressings

+1 - yeah, the original pressing is a hot pressing. Great music too. I think one of his best.

"Superwoman" just rocks on this.

Picked up the new Derek Sherinian "Oceana", have not played it yet though, soon.

Playing it now, pretty tasty, worth the buy.

Amir - Steve: Any chance we could turn this into a Sticky?

One of my favourte guitar albums of all time is Stevie Ray Vaughan's Texas Flood. We did a shoot out recently of the 4 re-issues currently available and the surprising winner by quite a long shot was the "cheap" Sundazed version:

That had to be a first. Never been impressed by the Sundazed reissues. Bought a few and no more. What other versions did you have around?

Neither had I, which was why I said that it was a surprise. Had the Pure Pleasure, Mofi and an old Epic in my collection.

Interesting!

I wanted to comment on an LP I found at a music store I used to frequent weekly in my guitar-playing days. It was a used copy, and my inspection of it said this was as close to mint as one could find. The record I purchased was Enya - Watermark . My wife at the time asked me why I would buy another copy, to which I replied that it was a Korean pressing of which I had none. I knew that Japanese pressings were usually very good and hoped that this pressing would live up to these same standards.

It's WEA title released on the Oasis label (Cat # OLW-579).

This is one of my goto LP's when I just want to chill and not be disturbed by outside influences. It has the amazing ability to totally transport me into a world of my own, where everything and everyone is at peace and there isn't a better place to be than now.

The record was pressed on standard weight vinyl and the quality of the vinyl is outstanding. It is super-quiet (even after all these years often playing it) and the presentation from a dynamic range perspective is second to none. This LP sounds better than some of my audiophile vinyl.

If ever you locate a copy of this Korean delight, I strongly recommend that you buy it.:D

I haven't heard the Korean pressing (my copies of this album are the original UK pressings), but wholeheartedly agree: Watermark is a fantastic album for relaxing!

Myles, I just had a look at my pressing, and there's no indication, but on the Acoustic Sounds website, there are two different catalog numbers. With Couldn't Stand the Weather, it says that one of them is pressed by QRP:

May be I lucked out and got the QRP-pressed Texas Flood too. When I bought it, I certainly didn't set out to buy the QRP version because I didn't like Tea for the Tillerman.

Could this be the beginnings of a budget-priced Hot Pressing? The QRP version is the same price as the ordinary Sundaze issue - $16.98.

Thread is now a Sticky. Nice work, everybody!

Lee

:D Thanks Lee! I love the participation by everyone! One of my favourite threads! I think I have a few other gems to report on as well.

I just finished listening to my Canadian pressed EPIC copy, and although I like it, I have no doubt better pressings exist. Which one however is the question, and it could be the Sundazed one indeed.

I felt this pressing had a very narrow soundstage (width), but decent imaging (depth) and the bass and upper end were well represented. The midrange however lacked significantly with a rather muddy tone that didn't do SRV's guitar any justice. It thought this was especially apparent in the lower-mids.

I'd be interested to hear the Sundazed pressing as a comparison.

George Benson - Breezin'

A Warner Brothers U.S. release ( BSK 3111) from 1976.

I don't have anything to compare it to, but this sounds very good (as do many WEA pressings IMO). I thought the mastering was very well balanced with no over/under emphasis anywhere across the spectrum. Instruments sounded clear and distinct and both soundstage and imaging were properly conveyed.

I'm very pleased with this pressing and I doubt I'll be seeking out another one.

I have an original pressing of Pat Benatar "In The Heat Of The Night" and it is fabulous, kinda scary at times, lol
