You Have Arrived

Gryphon Presents the World’s Finest Electronics

For nearly four decades, Gryphon Audio Designs has defined the state-of-the-art in High End audio. In terms of aesthetics, circuit design and innovation, materials, build quality, intuitive control and, most importantly, audio performance, Gryphon products have set the standard by which all others are judged. With the introduction of the The Gryphon Commander Preamplifier and The Gryphon Apex Mono and Apex Stereo Power Amplifiers, The Gryphon has once again pushed the audio art to a new and higher level.

Gryphon Apex: The Pinnacle of Performance

It has always been Gryphon’s mission to achieve the highest possible audio performance. in terms of sheer musicality, transparency, and realism. With the Gryphon Apex Mono and Apex Stereo Power Amplifiers, Gryphon Audio Designs elevates pure Class A power amplification a titanic leap above what was previously considered possible. The Gryphon Apex takes us several crucial steps closer in the never-ending quest for a more natural and convincing musical illusion. Years of experience developing the now discontinued Colosseum, Antileon EVO and Mephisto power amplifiers, as well as ongoing research in the fields of circuit topology, component quality and reliability have culminated in the Gryphon Apex: the new flagship amplifier of the Gryphon Audio Designs brand.

The Apex is not just another big power amplifier from The Gryphon, it is a whole new breed. An amplifier that separates the brand and elevates it into a different dimension of performance. Something the world has never experienced before. The Apex combines several of the very best sonic and design features from its cousins. The natural flow and organic sonic character from the Colosseum Power Amplifier. The pitch black and almost diabolic bass, and depth of the Antileon EVO Power Amplifier. The incredible transparency, resolution, the grip of an iron fist, and almost sonic neutrality from the Mephisto Power Amplifier. Everything combined with the highest possible level of component quality, wrapped in the most luxurious exterior design, the ultimate sonic performance that no one thought possible to achieve…. That’s what defines The Apex Power Amplifier.

Creating an Icon

In virtually every category of consumer goods - fashion, automobiles, furniture, wine, watches, etc. - there exists a revered top tier of luxury and excellence, a small yet celebrated, High End segment populated by innovative designers who pursue perfection with little concern for production economies, practicality, or cost.

The essence of these “aspirational brands” is consistent: aesthetic beauty, advanced technologies, superior performance, and extravagant build quality combine to achieve unsurpassed levels of fit, feel, finish and function. As a result, all of these offerings are the very best that they can possibly be, for the discerning few who can appreciate and afford them.

Commander-3.jpg

While many of these marques are familiar to luxury consumers, others are known only to a limited group of cognoscenti. Curiously, High End audio systems remain a mystery to many affluent connoisseurs. This lack of enthusiasm can be explained by products whose awkward functionality or poor cosmetics clash with the refined aesthetic sensibilities of potential owners. As for aesthetics, the sculptural beauty of Gryphon components, combined with their extraordinary fit and finish, elevates fine audio componentry to objects of worship at home in the finest domestic spaces.

For the uninitiated, who mistakenly assume that they are unable to distinguish finer musical nuances as reproduced by High End audio systems, even the briefest audition proves that most individuals can discern and appreciate the “you-are-there” realism offered by fine High End home entertainment equipment. Rest assured: if you’re passionate about music, the illusion that the listener can be transported to the performance venue is addictive.

The fortunate few with the means to acquire the ultimate in-home entertainment owe it to themselves to experience the life-changing difference which a Gryphon audio system delivers.

In every design and construction aspect, Apex is designed to be cherished and appreciated for a lifetime. It is an amplifier whose performance is unlikely to be surpassed. Ever. Experience Apex and we are sure you will agree. Please accept our cordial invitation to visit the showroom of your nearest authorized Gryphon dealer.

Congratulations, Rune, on the release of, and on the extremely favorable reviews of, this amazing amplifier! I know that Hugh in Atlanta is loving the Apex and the Commander -- and the Kodos!

First of all, congratulations! What an epic achievement.

The announcement mentioned the discontinuation of Antileon EVO and Mephisto, curious if you can share some timeline for their replacements.

I absolutely love the product and how it looks and sounds .. Was really considering their equipment but was very disappointed when they dropped our local dealer. Now there is no dealer anywhere near me and when I buy new product I nearly always buy from a local dealer … very difficult for a long distance dealer to provide the kind of support you are paying for when you buy one of these new. I certainly can’t haul that thing around! That said I’m sure it sounds like no other! Congrats on what I’m sure will be a legendary product.

Amazing build quality. I have heard their earlier muscle amps. They have taken the helm for SOTA solid state amplification I feel. I envy those who can afford it. Having said that the more reachable models are still really top notch!

Dear Sir.
The Mephisto and Pandora are not being replaced by The Apex and The Commander, nor are they being discontinued.
The Apex and Commander are such a huge step above and just another step on the ladder towards perfection.
Thanks a lot for your kind interest in our brand.

Thank you for the clarification, Rune.

Smaller is better. It looks like a dual mono. Why did they choose that over monoblocks?

All Gryphon power amplifiers are true dual mono and the same goes for the mono blocks. The amplifier modules are in parallel, and not bridged. You get a few more watts but twice the power capacity, twice the number of output transistors, etc. All Gryphon amplifiers are designed to be true dual mono to maintain the integrity of the signal and have maximum channel separation. Thank you so much for your kind question in regards to the Apex and its design topology.

kind regards,
The Gryphon

If the speaker is biwireable, what is the best way to connect to Apex Mono? Use a pair of speaker wires or two pairs of speaker wires with each speaker wire connect to each speaker binding post in Apex Mono?

Dear adyc. It all depends on the configuration of the speaker wires. In many cases the wire gauge drops to only half on the LF and HF when the speaker cables are configured as bi-wire, and if that's the case it is better to use two pairs of speaker cables. But there is a but, because if the capacitance of the speaker cables are extremely high it is better just to use one pair of speaker cables, as you do not want to stress any amplifier from adding unnecessary resistance/capacitance. Ideally it it would be better to mention the speaker cables as amplifier cables, as the speakers are the end-point, but the cables becomes an extension of the amplifier circuits. When adding speaker cables to the amplifier circuit the parameters will change, and hopefully not in a dramatic way. But changes will happen, which gives us/you another reason to be very picky when choosing the speaker cables (amplifier cables).
Have a lovely day.

Kind regards.
The Gryphon
