well, I lived through it ... some neat scenes but it deserves it's ratings.

much the same kinda fun as pacific rim, battle la etc. but this time Manhattan gets it.

Haven't seen Jennifer Connolly & John Cleese in a long while, and the added misery of Kathy Bates was nice.

Professor Barnhardt: - "Every civilization reaches a crisis point eventually."

- "Well that's where we are. You say we're on the brink of destruction and you're right. But it's only on the brink that people find the will to change.
Only at the precipice do we evolve. This is our moment. Don't take it from us, we are close to an answer."

Also directed by Costa-Gavras (1970), following 'Z'. ...French language (mono audio soundtrack).
Overall: 80.5

* Are you guys familiar with the French actor, Yves Montand? ...Google him; he's been in very many good films because he's a great actor, one of the best.

I liked the original The Day the Earth Stood Still. Ringo Star's finest flick.
I saw Shaun of the Dead recently. I would give it a 72.3. Better than expected.

Ringo Star? ...You mean the original one from 1951 was Ringo's favorite?

Just finished John Wick. Entertaining in a shoot'em up revenge flick sort of way. My father in-law said its planned to be a three film series.

I keep meaning to watch this... so it still holds up, good to hear.

The audio soundtrack is poor (bad mics of that era) ... you will hear distortion in the highs and lack of resolution and no bass ... it's bad.
...But not enough to be a major distraction (I took half point off).
The picture quality is better, but not to the level of today's hi-res cameras.

What is the uniqueness is the wide scope, and the film's content...what was this land before it came to what it is today.
And this, it will always hold.

For people who love movies, America, all people from all origins, evolution, history, adventure, search of the true meaning of life, life's realities, ...all that jazz.

My high score reflects my own received value; the fun of it, the people in it, the cinematography ... this time I rated it with my heart and spirit, and the technologies (sound and picture) available @ that time.
It's a very high score, it's only a score, it's my own score. ...The main essence here is for you all to revisit it again, , and this Blu-ray DigiBook 2-disc set version is a very nice way to experience it, with two choices: 2.89:1 aspect ratio (very wide scope), and SmileBox Cinerama. ...They don't make them anymore like that.

Do we deserve a second chance @ life? Are we in total control of our own destiny?
Some films require a second viewing and sometimes more. Some filmmakers demand a more profound analysis on some of their films.

I saw myself through it, and I saw the director himself. You create your own imaginary world as you go along watching it, or it can be plentiful.
It's not everyday that we got struck by lightning...and usually we die. ...But in films we are free to survive and more ...as in real life too, and in death.
We recoup what we lost during our exile...without getting older. ...The dream is what we live in the movies, and the realities are what we dream living them.

Overall (everything): 69

A classic experience in every way, big fan of all the Westerns of that era.

I don't even have a disc player in the system at the moment, but, well, you know those movies you love enough to watch, all the way through every year or so? I ran into one of them on Netflix the other day....

I love this movie. It is the best manifestation of that annoying, manic character Jack Black plays in every movie, regardless of the role. Cusack delivers a performance that re-defines the romantic comedy, making it safe for guys. He's so good that even when he turns to the camera and speaks to you right through the 3rd wall, it just feels right. And Lisa Bonet as Marie DeSalle? Be still my beating heart.

Tim, I am positively certain that this film, 'High Fidelity', is a favorite here among many many members, I included.
And I'm real glad that you just shared it because I'm gong to revisit my BR copy now real soon...it's ready to go, on my coffee table, right in front of my TV display, near my Spider-Man's crystal figurine (multicolored lighted and electronically pivoting @ 360°). :b

* And I just love that flick too...with some great jazz music in it.
My overall personal score: 93.5
I recommend highly, to the people who have already seen it, and in particular to the people who have not.

? If movies didn't exist, we would have to invent them. ...And if no one did, we still have the music left.

I used to live next to the record shop in Evanston whose owner was the person upon which Cusack's character was based. I'm pretty sure that Cusack was from Evanston, too.

I'm very surprised that you rate this one so highly, N.S. I thought that it was just ok.

See, numbers...they all have different values for different people. :b

That's why I was never big in giving scores to films before...because they don't mean much for cinephiles like I.
But for other folks (Amir) they mean much more. ;-)

Anyway, 93.5 for me is good, ...96.6 is real good, ...and 99.5 is awesome.
Below those numbers? ...Like I said; just numbers...and people they can play all they want with numbers...like $20 milions in my bank account, or 120-foot yacht in my private marina, or 3,500 bottles of wines and champagnes in my cellar, or ...you got the score by now...we all put different values to numbers...just like some of Amir's ultra hi-end customers. :b

'Payback' is a real cool flick, funny, well constructed, great performances, and the music is totally my bag.
We don't fight over ratings, numbers, we just gave our owns. :b ...We take our own scores and run with them @ home or anywhere else.

And some days we don't feel anal about music and movies; we simply go with the flow @ the time.
When we listen to a music piece; do we feel the exact same from one distant past listening audition to a more recent session? ...It's the same with films.

Life is great, I love it, with all my heart and soul, and from one day to the next it's never the same twice.
We are all so different and @ the same time all related. ...'Payback' is more than just ok; it's cool. ...And 93.5 is cool too. :D
Besides, when I really like a film, I emphasize my liking, to encourage others to visit it, or revisit it.

How would you personally rate 'High Fidelity' ? Please, give me your score from zero to one hundred; then I'll tell you what I truly think too. :b

Mike, what was the last film that you watched? ...Anywhere...home...theater...any medium.
