You know, I was thinkin' like you before, and I felt lonely, but not anymore.
Because few members honestly said why they weren't posting much in this thread,
and I can totally relate, and I fully respect. Others did not say but I think I understand why also.
Everyone watches movies, but members here at WBF are AUDIO people most and foremost. :b
And that, is perfectly fine with me.
Remember, this is still a relatively small forum; but the best place. :b
MilkMan, you are a bit familiar with some of my posts, here and there,
and you know that here is better than there.
And if you are following the trends correctly and with clarity, here we have a winning team,
the total ensemble of people. ...Not so much over there (you know where).
So please, do post here in any thread you feel like, like you did, in this movie thread,
and help make this forum the best that it could be. :b
Because after all, it is with the participation and contribution of all members that we can achieve that goal.
And God knows how hard I try myself. So are several other members here (founders, audio experts and all).
I'm here because their philosophy fits my way of life to a tee (golf tee). And I luv golf.

This is one of the most fascinating and unusual movies I have seen in a long time.
It is set in mid 1700 France.
It is the story about an obsession of the senses, namely odor, in a world that mostly smelled bad i.e. post mideval Paris.
The film appeals to my audiophile side because it is describes an alternate obsession of the senses i.e. odor vs. sound. It also makes the objective and subjective thing highly moot in favor of the subjective.
The film is "continental", in the sense that it draws from a broad, uncensored palette. It shirks from little, and shows whatever it wants, no matter what moral sensibilities. However, it only does so to promote the oddball and extremist premises of the film in the interests of story telling.
It is impossible to recommend the film because it relies on a bit of open mindedness to say the least, and it is by turns gorgeous and brutal without reserve.
It basically describes the life journey of an olfactory divvy, born and abandoned in the Paris fish market. He has an super human sense of smell, which is inherently eidetic, computational, apothecary, and barometric, all at once.
For instance, he knows every odor in a village, and who is there and isn't, or where they have gone, or where they have come from, based on odor alone. He can avoid thrown objects simply because the disturbance in the air changes its odor, and he can duck. He can smell through bottles, and can track anybody based on their receding and approaching odors.
Suffice it to say, his goal becomes to preserve and concoct the perfect odors in a perfume which requires him to become a kind of obsessive, inspired monster.
Dustin Hoffman puts in an extended cameo as a perfume artist in Paris, and he is wonderful in the antic role.
This is one of those movies that makes me wonder how it ever got made, but I am glad it did.
Not for the weak of stomach or the prudish.

WW 2 lost films , the best colourfilm doc. i know of , about ww 2 .

Other than the physical attributes and skills of the leading lady (Gina Carano), not my selection for best of anything. In fact, the four of us that watched it at the end all looked at each other and scratched our heads !!
I love this movie. Some of the early Hitchcock just seem a wee bit dated, but this is just amazing. Two scenes stick in my memory: When he is trying to kill time (it reminds me of the auction scene in North By Northwest) by pretending to be a political candidate (McCrocodile), where he gives a very passionate speech (one audience member cries, "Speak oot!") and when he is with the bad guy with the missing middle finger. This also gets referenced in The Catcher In The Rye.
