I recently purchased a Boulder 1160 from Suncoast Audio in Sarasota Florida.

I've owned many good amplifiers such as Jeff Rowland and Krell to name a couple. But I've never owned an amp like this 1160 that controls my Raidho D3s like this amplifier.

The mids and highs are completely unstressed and clean and the bass is considerably more dynamic down to it's limit of about 30Hz. I thought the soundstage was wide with my JRDG 625s2, but it's now even wider with the 1160.

The Boulder 1160 is a definite keeper that I will likely have for a very long time.

Great choice indeed. Looks like you're going DAC direct from your Emm labs, but if you ever have a chance, audition the 1110 pre, it's an incredible piece of gear and adds so much dynamic drive and soundstage solidity.

Do you have a EMM Labs DV2 that you noticed an appreciable difference when you used a Boulder 1110 pre amp?

NO, I don't have that specific DAC, but I have tried going DAC direct with a few other DACs (eg. Rockna, Berkeley), and each time having the 1110 was a big improvement. Also from reports of others on the net, seems to hold true for other DACs as well, dynamics and body is compromised going direct vs. when a preamp is in the chain.

Always wanted to demo one but my local Boulder dealer never got one in, and even though the factory is about ten minutes away from me I couldn't source a demo that way, either.

I agree. Our EMM DA2v2 DAC sounds much better with an EMM Pre (& Vitus Pre) then it does when going direct.
